A poor trailer, hopefully they release a better one in the future. Also, stop over-reacting and turning this thread into an Origin hate one.
EDIT:They should have used 'Body Movin' by the Beastie Boys.

At the rate EA keeps dropping the ball on Battlefield 3, the game really will have 99 problems when it comes to launch,
As long as a ***** ain't one, the trailer will make sense.

They should take a hint from Crysis 2, that game had one of the best trailer soundtracks ever:

Erm...Didn't you notice the EA stamp right in the beginning of that video?

Captcha: sofheyo school,
Actually that's exactly why I said it. Reaction to Crysis 2 trailer was something like "wow, damn good" while the reaction to this is more like "Why that particular rap?"
Fair enough. It was a little early in the morning for me at the time and it's pretty hard to type sarcasm.

oh jesus...here comes all the pople raging over the song choice and all the rap is crap stuff...

OT: I don't care for battlefield, but not a horrible trailer, i do think they could've gone with a slightly better song choice but wasn't the worst i've seen.

EA is EA, DICE is DICE.

This was EA's decision, not DICE's.

And yes, it's real, I saw it aired during MNF the other day.
Personally, I prefer the industrial/NIN sound they had with their other trailers, but honestly, I've seen much worse video game ads.

I played in the Alpha test, I played two Beta tests, and it's going to be a good game (with perhaps some bad marketing.)

I am happily awaiting Serious Sam 3, Tribes:Ascend, and other such faster-paced shooters, but this new Battlefield looks and feels amazing. They really shouldn't be marketing it as a CoD-killer though, because CoD:MW3 is a different game. It's about infantry combat. BF3 is about combined arms, while MW and MW2 were about infantry combat - no vehicles or jets or whatever. They're both games that some people will want to get both of. Personally I think the infantry combat in BF3 is pretty sweet even without all the other stuff, but the huge sprawling 64-player maps with rolling hills that I can drive an APC or MBT on really have a feel that you won't get from MW3. You might get it from ArmA though. :)

Anyway, my point is to not let this stupid trailer discourage you. I laughed when it came on and dismissed it, but I'm sure it will get some people to try the game, or at least just get them thinking about the game (aka: "mindshare")

Don't particularly remember this much angst over black ops having eminem.
Calm down children not every commercial is going to have death metal or techno in it.
Exactly this. Battlefield is aiming for a similiar audience, and is using similiar tactics in an attempt to get it. Don't like it? Too bad, but it won't effect the game, just watch some of the gameplay footage trailers if you like those more, there's nothing wrong with variety.

It's just marketing after all.

MW2 had eminem, black ops had rolling stones which was appropriate because of the era the game is set in. I feel that if you get the right music even a shit game seems appealing. I mean i was tempted to buy Call of Jaurez the cartel (knowing fully that it was shit) just because it had Pantera's Cowboys from Hell on the advert. I feel that metal is more suited to fps and shooter games than rap. Who wouldn't want to play a WW2 game with Slayer's Angel of Death being played.

Just wanted to point out that both used Eminem, and it wasn't only MW2 doing it, so the appropriateness doesn't really stick.

These trailers are just made to pump people up though, and something with a decent beat and kick to it can do that to people. I like Eminem, and some of the CoD trailers out there can do just that with it, but it's playing to certain players tastes. Some people prefer gameplay montages with the in-game sound, others with it dubbed to something else.

Me, personally, I liked the Bad Company trailers the best since they actually were funny to watch.

In this thread: whining and moaning about something that will neither be in the finished product, nor affect the overall gameplay experience of said product.

Seriously guys, how will a song choice for a minute and a half trailer change anything whatsoever?

This. THIS is what happens when a Games publisher does not understand its audience.

FAIL!

Come on EA. Really? Do you ACTUALLY think this is going to get you even 1 sale? Really?

People are pissed over a song.

Because of a song. Nice. A song that had nothing to do with game play at all. Nice.

Of coarse the Escapist gets pissed off because the sound track doesn't fit with the game. Jay-Z is a good artist and Battlefield is a great game series. I see no problem. Sorry it wasn't some rolling stones or other shity rock artist that those of the PC 3rd Reich love.

I love how the "At least Black ops trailer with eminem had the Lyrics "till I collapse", so it was relevant to war". Not at all. "Till I collapse Im spilling these raps long as you feel em
Till the day that I drop you'll never say that I'm not killing them
Cause when I am not then I am stop pinning them
And I am not hip-hop and I?m just not Eminem"

He isn't talking about war, he is talking about holding his image in Hip hop.

99 Problems and a ***** aint one? Yeah I am sure that the soldiers have 99 problems and a ***** aint one as well.

I got 99 problems, and its with the Escapist elitist.

The song is obviously a dig on CoD, hence the caption for the video "rap videos just got a whole lot less subtle" - or whatever it was, I can't look at it now that I'm in the comments.

Rap videos have never been subtle. Get the joke?

And yeah, also the sudden, rampant web advertising with the slogan, "Above and beyond the call"

Look, I like BF and CoD. If you made me choose, I'd take Battlefield, but honestly I think it's a mistake for the publisher to pit itself against CoD. I think that's the wrong direction to go in - they're trying to trigger a rivalry despite the fact that "military shooter" is basically the only thing the two series have in common. This is only going to see a bleeding of the lines separating the two franchises and that isn't going to be good for anyone... Next thing you know, BF will have killstreaks and CoD will have vehicles and nobody's gonna be happy.

It's not the song that people are pissed about, it's the implication that rap songs and explosions are enough to sell the game, regardless of relevance to the actual content of the game.

It's an implied insult, not unlike in the nineties when Hollywood tried to sell kids movies with catch phrases like 'It's rad!' It shows what the publisher thinks of it's audience... which isn't much.

Hope that helps you understand what's going on here ^_^

And to be more helpful, it's 'sane'. Sorry, I'm an English teacher. Concluding lines should never have speeling mistakes.

The song fits.
Oh what?
Do you want some glorifying high-octane power metal?
Or do you want a song that manages to be both thematically consistent and add a much needed sense of irony to the whole thing?

well to be fair if you are in combat you probably do have 99 problems and a ***** wont be one of them XD

but yes EA needs to SACK their entire Marketing division! they really are the most retarded bunch of monkeys working in the the videogame industry!
Problem List:
1. My boots smell.
2. I haven't had a shower in days.
3. I'm getting low on ammo.
4. I just saw my best friend die.
5. My last squad got killed.
6. I'm nowhere near my family.
7. I'm getting hungry.

In all seriousness, though, it does seem like an odd little trailer. The meaning's a bit too vague for my liking.

I like the trailer, I don't see the problem with the song?

Hell, it fits fine, you're a soldier out in war, you definately have more then 99 problems, and a ***** isn't going to be one of them. (No, your problems will be bullets, c4, grenades, rpgs, tanks, bombs, collapsing buildings, snipers, airstrikes, claymores, mines, etc, etc.)

99 Problems is a great song and Jay-Z was a very good rapper in his prime. I don't understand people's blind hate of hip-hop. A lot of it is fantastic music.

But it didn't really fit the video.
