My issue lies that we're given no context at all in the story. It's just random shit happening with people we need to assume are for some reason evil that is not explained.
If you can somehow locate a copy of the Game Informer interview, I recommend reading that. It put a lot of these events into context. It gives a decent explanation for what Columbia is, what is going on, who you are, and what your goal is. All while not spoiling any major plot elements. Though that's not to say the information that interview provides makes the game better, but it at least helps you to understand it.

Maybe I'm getting old, but I found this whole video to be hilariously stupid.
a. Yes.

b. 99% of video games are stupid.

c. They're still great.

I agree, alot happened in that trailer, but I couldn't care more or less about the characters right now.
Next to that, 80% of this stuff seemed scripted to me. I sure as hell hope this turns out to be a game instead of a sequence of cutscenes.

1. This. Looks. Epic.
2. Where does THIS fit in the continuity? Is this a sequel? A prequel? If a sequel, does that mean Bioshock's evil ending is canon? If this is a prequel, then HOW?! Is this only called Bioshock because of the plasmids and steampunk tech, and it takes place in an entirely different reality?
3. I hope this will be for PS3.

Well, this has actually stirred my interest. Industrialized Steampunk, this time? At least, moreso than the original. I'll keep watch, but I'll remain on the sideline for now.

Holy shit holy shit holy shit! I can't tell what's gameplay and what isn't! That's just the way it feels like it should be! I mean really! What was controllable and what wasn't? So so good.

Did anyone else notice how stuff was changing. The banner on the ground changes at 1:44, the politician's badge weirdly turns from a flag into a hammer and sickle from 3:23 to 3:26, and then that painting in the bar changes from depicting a rider on a white horse to depicting a black-haired man at 6:01. Maybe the big twist is that this is some sort of virtual reality.

What do you have? Its going to be for PC and Ps3 as well. By the way, one of the greatest trailers ever. I recently replayed all three previous games, including Minerva's Den, and it just made me love the series even more. I also realized that I think Bioshock 2 is better than the first. I originally liked this first better, but playing them back to back made me realize that, besides story and horror, the second is better in nearly every way. Minerva's Den was fantastic as well, that last level and those reveals made me giddy in a way few games do.

Wtf? this looks nothing like bioshock, the storyline, the setting, it cant be in the bioshock universe. Plus, why did the politician attack you? The sign said "pick up a gun". Awsome birds thoug. Lokk on wikipedia for this though, and you'l be in for a very unpleasent suprise. Hint: a certain something is temporary

Very cool, as someone said an 'actual sequel' rather than the expansion pack we got last time. Very interested to see how this fits in with the established games.

It does look like actual gameplay but (if this is going to make sense) directed (or scripted) gameplay for the sake of the trailer. All the stuff in that you're going to get to do just not as smoothly.

This reminds me of Half Life 2, the sequel takes a step away from the original and towards some kind of greater story (hopefully).

I'm sorry but I still don't buy this being "actual" gameplay.

Everything feels way to scripted.
Journalists were shown the same demo but it was played through slower in this video - that's according to the guy who presented this week's Feedback on X-Play.

It's obviously reheArsed and scripted in a number of places, but it's still being played.

By the power of grayskull, its looking epic. Simply cannot wait to ride rails and (finally) use telekinesis the way it was always meant to be used.

Oh my.

This is most interesting. And promising.

One thing that strikes me is that it's a bit hard to tell what is gameplay and what is cutscene. For example, the part where the crazy politician starts yelling at the player. Is that in gameplay? Could the player just shoot him in the face and consequently miss the whole cannon sequence? Same goes for the part with the handyman on the bridge. Would he still have fallen if the player wasn't blasting away at him?

Also, I like the flying big daddy. It harkens back to the original Bioshock but at the same time is appropriate to the new setting. Nice.

Lastly, for better or for worse... cleavage.
That's in game, similar to in Bioshock 1 when Dr. Steinman was rambling about Aphrodite while you stood and watched him. And also notice how you have no gun at that point, the cannon sequence only starts when you pick up the sniper rifle.

Guys, seriously, this is a TECH demo. It does have gameplay, but it's the kind of video where it's meant to show you the big picture about the game: How the graphics look, how the guns and plasmids function, a brief glimmer into the story, the new location, etc. This game still has about 2 years of development time on its hands, so chances are all this won't appear in the game in this order. It will probably be featured, but I highly doubt you're going to go from fighting one enemy (Saltonstall) to fighting another one (Alpha, Him) Relax people, Irrational is just showing you what to expect.

I'm still not convinced.

I'm sure that it's using the ingame engine (mostly) and that some of the gameplay mechanics it shows will be in the finished product. But I just feel there's something screwy about the way the camera moves; a little too loose and hazy. Aswell as other things.

Honestly, I think this is just a concept cinematic to give the producers and such an idea of what the developers are going for: Show them the overall look, graphics and gameplay they can expect from the finished game.

My word, it's a first person game where people talk to the main character and HE TALKS BACK. It's almost like he's a real person!

I wouldn't mind it if only I weren't concerned about them making a project that SHOULD be really ambitious already. I'm Warily excited for X-Com because I loved the games made by a different studio and Fallout 3 turned out well... except for paying more than advertised for the full content of the game.

What I saw from the trailer was the same old same old with re-skins. Same old, "you can't actually shoot them right there and stop them, the story's got plans for him!" In Bioshock 1 I kept wanting to meet somebody or something, or talk to the splicers it felt too unrealistic despite their insanity that you couldn't interact with them at all even after using the 'make friendly' tonic. They seemed to talk fine to each other. I was bothered by little things like that and I'm really not expecting any thing different at all from anything else called Bioshock.

until I hear otherwise I'm just going to push it to the side as, "bioshock re-skin V2." 'But seriously guys, this time it's a whole new game! Instead of Adam you have cloudnium and instead of big daddies you have fleshpounds and fleshpounds with wings, and now there's crows instead of bees, O and get this! Now isntead of seaslugs it's seagulls that give you adam-cloudnium' In case I wasn't redundant enough about how it's going to be the same thing but with could themed things; Bioshock Infinite is going to be infinitely rapture with clouds. My greatest hope for the new Bioshock is that it doesn't interfere with the quality of X-Com.

this is what i wanted the first games to be.
actual intense and involved combat with stunning visuals and an impending sense of doom and smallness.
as well as a true superhuman sort of power. not tacked on abilities

if this is what actually playing it feels like then i have now become interested.
