As a fan of both Soul Calibur and essentially everything that Arc System Works does (I know this game is by Namco, I'm just saying Arc's work is often like some kind of opiate fiend's fever dream) I'd like to say that I for one approve of things getting crazier and more off the wall. This kind of thing makes me more excited for the game. Strange but true.emeraldrafael said:She attacks with magic. Thats bullshit! BULLSHIT I say!
I just dont see why you cant cut out the middle man nad just use those claws. or just bring in freddie and jason as youre two characters. the only other person who's really used this kinda weapon is algol, and hes supposed to be OP'd. Plus they're (potentially) ruining a character in Amy, who is deep and has history. Its not all that this a dumb weapon (though really, it seems like it, cause how are you going to have different weapons for her?) but that the new guy is throwing what Soul Calibur was out, and now is even making excuses for himself in case th game sucks that he so willingly took.Ghengis John said:As a fan of both Soul Calibur and essentially everything that arc system works does I'd like to say that I for one approve of things getting crazier and more off the wall. Well we don't know that she won't be using them for any attacks. And then again the claws might be needed to control the orb.emeraldrafael said:I just dont see why you cant cut out the middle man nad just use those claws.
Ugh no. Guest characters should be put to a minimum and I really wouldn't want those two anyhow.or just bring in freddie and jason as youre two characters.
Well you know, he had a lot of problems, and while the bubbles were bad it wasn't just relating to the orbs either. I hear that his 3A had some monstrous properties for instance. For that matter though he wasn't swinging the orbs about and the biggest problem was that he had more than one. His bubbles were projectiles too. While they might explain it in game as the same principal, her orb doesn't seem to be behaving like his bubbles did so I think it's too early to call the play style.the only other person who's really used this kinda weapon is algol, and hes supposed to be OP'd.
Well we don't know about that, we'll just have to wait and see won't we? As for the different weapons we've been there with Necrid (not to bring up any bad memories involved with him but) different colored orbs is an easy solution. Maybe a snowglobe for a joke weapon. Doesn't seem that hard to do.Plus they're (potentially) ruining a character in Amy, who is deep and has history. Again, we don't know. If she is Amy there might be a perfectly valid story driven reason for why she's using a different name... and wearing a hood. It's almost like she doesn't want to be recognized eh? I have to add something though, and I hope that you catch this edit and that's this:I guess I just dont like the character in general (along with a great many other things), but particularly her weapon bothers me about her. And if she does turn out to be amy, but with the age old trump card of "I haz amnesia" that people like to tear into as a plot device, I'll hate her even more.

Having your own style DOES make you your own character. Infact that is the only defining point of it.
She is just "Amy" in character model and in all likelyhood, story as well; but given that those things have the weight of a feather next to fighting style/playability; it's hardly worth worrying about. So what if she is Amy, anyways? I care about how she plays.
What makes me happy is her being Amy implies the SC4 Amy style is dead and buried, and I can't tell you how happy that makes so many of us tournament players. So this is like a double helping of good news, Amy is "dead", style wise, and we get something all new. Win/Win.

My friend, I would not be surprised at all if we saw that sort of thing as DLC.Jabberwock King said:It's only pure speculation on my part, but I think that there's a chance that Namco will put Taki in as a palette swap on Natsu for competitive play. I can certainly be wrong, but it would seem like a practical move. Keep the old character in the game and have a new face as well.
I still dont see the need for the orb then. I just feel those cat claws can be a better weapon, and more interesting then orbs. Yeah, it looks like Voldo's weapon, but to have that personal style of cat claws would just seem better then using an orb to bash your opponent. But then again, thats probably just me being me. maybe once I play with it, i may like it, but I just dont care for the way I've seen it so far.Ghengis John said:Well we don't know that she won't be using them for any attacks. Well viola's not a guest character, she's just a new one. so far as I know, guest characters havent been announced yet. Im just saying, why cant you (though I guess people would be sick of them since at least freddie was in the new MK game). There will probbly be one each game, and maybe a second that is unlocked in both games (they way they did in SC IV).

its not about algol being OPd. Just that hes the only other guy that uses orbs weve seen. See above for my feelings ont he orb itself as the weapon.

tahts such a cheap out though. Algol was the same way, so were the star wars characters. It justs eems like such a cheap way.
and already we do know he is making excuses, he already blamed time (despite knowing how much hed have) and not having enough.

This isnt supposed to be about her not wanting to be recognized (if it is amy). Viola's character is quoted from her page to have amnesia:
<quote=Viola Soul Calibur Wiki Page>Viola suffers from amnesia and does not remember her origin or past life
i get all that. Its not the styled Im worried about losing (though I do like that rapier style both she and Raphael use. In fact, I kicked plenty of ass with Amy just fromt he practice i had with her, and she was one of my most winning fighters). Its the story. And I get it, this is a fighting game, why would you want story here or why is it important. Its just two people beating each other up (unrealistically herpy derp laughter) at the end of the day.idlemind said:snip
Now Im not saying thats what the person you quoted said, and certainly not what you yourself said. its just a common argument that I feel compelled to add in when I say story in fighting games. and the Soul Edge/Soul Calibur franchise has always been good on stories. You look at Seigfried and thats the classic Greek Hero arc. Its overconfidence, descent to evil, the plagued mind, separation of identity to confront the evil, and finally the final battle to vanquish your evil (all told through SE, SC I-IV respectively).
You look at raphael and Amy and thats the classic love story. the disgraced noble who finds the peasant girl he deeply loves and would do anything for her to keep her safe, while she simply wants him to be safe from himself and his ambitions so she may keep the man she loves.
Ivy is confronting the demons of your heritage and family, Xiangua is the plucky heroine who wants to save everyone so they dont have to fight for her and be hurt, Sophitia is the tale of a woman who grows to a mother with a horrible past, Cassandra is saving that woman and her family, shouldering the burden she believes is unfairly placed by the gods upon her sister, Aeon Calcos (lizardman for this not in the know or that dont geek on this series) is about finding your humanity and seeking vengence or retribution from a god that had wronged you.
Theres just a lot of story in this, and this Daishi fuck is just tossing it all out. Seigfried has no purpose in Soul Cal V, his story as its been defined by the games to us is over. a nd what does he do in this story? he goes and forms the group that led him on this path of evil and pain. And its not even a reboot, hes just 20-30 years older. Hes there because if he wasn fans would ***** and piss and moan. Raphael's not making it to this game, so Amy loses her love, making all that progress ad story she had in the series worthless. and why does she no longer have this? She has Amnesia, the age old card that is a staple in most bad to average cookie cutter games that flood the market gamers love to rip on.
And yes, this may all just be speculation. She may not be amy. thats why i said potentially. If shes not amy, its all null in void and pointless whining. But this is just the chance that it is. just the chance that she is amy. thats what bothers me, and you have to admit, she does look similar to amy, and that cant be coincidence. THe rose design, the curl haired, the gothlita look, the pale skin, the double cape behind her that was a signature of raphael's two recent outfits.
So thats what you can sum it up as. The potential to fuck up a character, and fucking up established story. If shes not amy, then yeah, my argument is unfounded. But if she is, then Im just saying I guess.

2) Aye that's the fella. I don't know if it's the girly hair or what but I just... instant hatred.
.... sorry, I made a native American fighter in soul Cal IV and like the idea of it.
and oka. I dont care for him much either, but i dont care for the game at all existing. it shouldnt, its simple as that really.
And as far as the new characters go, I'm getting a big "anime cute" vibe going on with the new character designs. It really seems to me that recent Japanese games just can't help but tack on "cute" designed characters. But obsession with "cute" is becoming ever increasingly dominant in Japanese pop culture (and you can thank the spending power of teenage girls for that), even among the "manliest" of men, so it's nothing surprising to find "cute" making its way even into a game like this. I'm really getting tired of it, TBH. I will still probably buy this game, but I'm just kinda P.O.ed that they gave my perennially best and favorite moveset to the prettyboy! Well, then they had better include a better character creation mode, at least to the quality of SCIII. I was severely disappointed when they gutted SCIV like they did in order to give it slightly shinier graphics. I HATE it when developers sacrifice gameplay options for visuals.
But anyway, to rant on the new characters some more, I actually like the idea of the whole cat-claw and magic thing, but why did they have to give it to the schoolgirl?!?!? Come on, Project Soul, stop giving the most interesting movesets to the least appealing characters!
Of course they are trying to make money, but so what?Loop Stricken said:No. You're honestly trying to tell me that they're NOT making this game for money? I don't care about their poor decisions, they're not making this game to give it away.
