Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is a noninvasive procedure, by which electrodes are placed around a person's scalp, and sends magnetic waves to jostle around your neurons. Patients with schizophrenia, motor cortex disorders, and depression, have demonstrated prolonged remission of symptoms. Aside from this, TMS has also amplified the cognition of healthy people, temporarily strengthening their intellectual capacity: http://www.nytimes.com/2003/06/22/magazine/22SAVANT.html?pagewanted=all

I have a keen interest in enhancing my abilities. I take vitamin D and magnesium daily, which I feel has helped my attention span and working memory greatly, so I wonder if TMS would help me any. This world won't be any less competitive in the future, so I would like the option of amplifying myself. Or maybe it won't do anything, and I'm worrying too much about getting better.

What do you think, Escapists? Will TMS open a new frontier for individuals to explore their own potential? Or is it mostly hype?
