Transferring iTunes libraries.

I'm sure there is a topic about this already, but I've searched and cannot find one.

Long story short, I want to transfer my 2000+ library on iTunes from my old laptop to my new one (or from my iPod to my laptop). I've googled it, and there are many different people telling me to do many different things so I thought I might as well ask here...see if anyone knows anything.


I was sure that there was an option on the iPod to do that...reverse synch or something, but apparently not...
Also it says the library is tied with one computer and therefore cannot synch onto my other laptop. Anyone know anything about this?

May be kind of a simple question, sure, but I am le stuck.

You actually have a few options: copy and paste your music from one network to the next, burn an absurd amount of cds, use flash drives, or homesharing.

Well I know a couple of ways actually that don't involve downloading anything. One of the ways is what Wanderfreak was talking about.

Assuming you have all your music in your ipod you could:

1. Attach it to your second computer
2. Don't sync it. Also there is an option on your itunes for your ipod. Make it so that you do everything manually.
3. Go to your ipod on 'My Computer' or something like that.
4. Go to Tools. Then Folder Options. View tab. Then Allow "View Hidden Files and Folders"
5. Go back to your ipod (on my computer)
6. You should now be able to locate your music files and folders
7. Drag them to your desktop (Make a copy and paste it actually). Depending on the amount of songs on there, you wait.
8. Once they are all on your desktop, open the folders, highlight them all and then drag them into your library (Have your itunes open and drag them. It's tedious, but you'll have 'em all)

Note: When you open your folders all your files will be named something like Z9288 or A5738. Don't worry about it. It will all be fine when it is dragged into your library.

Note 2: This is all assuming you have a windows computer

Second way!

Well just go to your itunes while you have you music there. You change your settings to manually do everything. And then you...

Go to the tab on your ipod with you music. (Not your computers library, but your ipods)

Then you drag the songs you want and get them to your library. Any songs you had bought on itunes will need verifying for either way, but that's how to do it!
