Transformers MMO in development

Sounds like an interesting idea. I've always been a transfomers nut (so I should really get the new game to prove it lD), so I'd play.

Theres a lot of potential for this. Racing, player vs. player wars, heavy customazation options to make the character you own. The list goes on. The one thing I can't peg down is the setting. Should it be on Earth, back on the homestead of Cybertron, or something new entirely?

I read that its not slated to be released in the US/Europe... sucks but knowing MMO Devs most new MMOs that have come out suck anyway.

Net Dragon announced that they are developing a Transfromers MMO for Hasbro. I don?t think there is any way for me to even express how great a game like this could be. The potential inherent in the settings and the transforming schtick itself is enormous. If the developers go wild and tailor a game around everything this franchise offers them it could be a fantastic game. Everything from elements of fighting games, shooters and racing games is on the table here and if you combine those elements you could get something truly unique. Mechas already lend themselves to the MMO genre as if they were tailor-made for it. There was a great article about this a while ago.

?Here?s the thing: The more I think about it, the more I find myself believing that a giant robot MMOG would be able to plausibly explain all the little nuances and quirks of the genre that we take for granted. Well, maybe not all of them ? but more than a few.?

But Transformers offers a lot more than even a normal Mecha. Imagine boss-fights that go like a Wipeout-race with almost everyone in vehicle form, or maybe even some riding on top of tanks and trucks while they themselves remain in robot-form. And don?t even get me started on the possibility of flight/jumpjets and true 3D combat. Of course they could also just make the standard WoW-Mechanics clone with a new skin and a slight gimmick, like transforming only in certain zones for travel. Aion already showed how you can deliver basically nothing of a great idea even if it is included in the game. The fact that the developer is Chinese does not exactly raise my hopes as it seems to indicate the typical Asia-grinder. But we don?t know anything yet and while I certainly have less reason for hope than a platypus trying to win a chess-match against Stephen Hawking, I?m going to stay positive until the bad news actually hit.
