Just got back and have to say, after a belting start it certainly outstayed it's welcome. I never thought I'd say this but it did get to a point where I was willing it to end.
The human characters didn't get as much screen time and with every scene having a Transformer of some description the novelty soon wore off. They'd have been better off with the same budget as the last movie because too much money almost killed this movie.
That said, the intro in Japan was fan-f@f**k-tastic. And there was some genuinely thrilling set pieces. Seeing the odd cheeky movement from the animated movie and some far more interesting Transforming animations, particularly Primes intro, really promoted the horn.
Sadly there wasn't anything as foreboding as Blackout's intro in the first movie.
The Transformers themselves looked a lot better, the designs tightened up and far less cumbersome. The SFX were astonishingly good.
The comedy was definitely verging on the George Lucas style, but I did find myself laughing along to it more often than not. Just a shame the love and mush got in the way. Hopefully a directors cut will mean less is more.
Good, but not as good as the first.
