Several years ago I was absolutely hooked on Tribes, and when Tribes 2 came out that too. Now with my return to a reliable internet connection I was wondering if anyone out there still played either of these anymore and if the communities were at all active enough to be worth tracking down an old copy and reinstalling. Also I had heard rumor of a Tribes game coming out after Tribes 2, but I guess it was mostly ignored.

So my fellow Escapists, please enlighten me as to the fate of my beloved game of jetpacks and plasma guns.

Tribes Vengeance wasn't a rumour. I have it. It's quite good offline. They introduced a simgle player campaign that was just epic really. Unfortunately the online component leaves much to be desired. People just spam rockets, the armours are crap, people don't play properly and the community's just lame.
They need to make a current gen tribes game. That would be the tits.

Yeah Tribes: Vengeance (I think thats what it was called) was pretty crap. On the upside, it had a single-player campaign, on the downside, said singleplayer campaign was kinda stupid. It had its moments, but I don't remember being all that wowed by it.
Haven't played Tribes 2 in years though, so couldn't tell you the current state of the community.

I liked Tribes, the Aerial Assault, for PS2, but it was not on level with halo. I HATE HALO now, butttttt, the game had few weapons and sketchy maps.

The gameplay was great. I mean, if you were playing with other people, aw... it was fun. it finally died in the hype of Halo 2. Sorry, I think it be dead.

Why was the single player campaign stupid? It had a decent plot, interesting characters, the little competitive games in between the story really broke up the tension between scenes. No two levels were alike, you played from the perspective of several different people. I thought the single player campaign was done quite well. It was the multiplayer that left much to be desired.
-edit- Not to mention it spanned like 3 different generations of characters. That was pretty cool. Definately one of the better plots in videogames.

Keep in mind I haven't played the game in several years, I just remember being unimpressed. Maybe if I played again my impression would be different. I still played through the whole thing and got some enjoyment out of it, but it was hardly compelling writing if memory serves.

I found the whole underlying plot of [spoiler\] the princess being "you know who's" daughter very interesting and the frowned upon love of the royal with the rogue and ultimately the sacrifice when you play as the woman who has to kill her lover. That was just gruesome, but done oh so well.[/spoiler]
Also, the way everyone tied in with everybody in terms of relationships was extremely well done I thought.

I've played tribes 2 over at a LAN. Not the best game out there. I would go onto say it sucks due to lack of creativity.

I remember tribes. I remember the community being long dead too, sorry.
Kinda what I expected to hear, so many fond memories of blowing up base generators... hopefully the series isn't completely dead, because bringing back jetpacks to a current-gen multiplayer FPS would probably be a huge hit.

I loved Tribes, loved it! Then when Tribes 2 came out I loved that even more!

I played tribes like it was my life, i loved that game so much.

Unfortunately no new online shooter has done what Tribes did and it makes me sad. All they need to do is make the exact same game, with the same game mode as Tribes, upgrade the graphics and I'm sure they'd have a HUGE hit. Tribes was way better than Modern Warfare 2 is now, and way better than bad company 2 (although that is the closest we have). It was incredibly innovative, and quite strategic, and by strategic I mean you needed to know what the shit was going on or your team was screwed.

I miss Tribes and would pay almost anything for a new Tribes that stayed true to its roots and is the same depth and complexity.

Also Tribes Vengeance doesn't count as a Tribes game, that thing was a sad attempt to make old fans buy a new game. It was an abortion amongst game standards.

There were Tribes, Tribes 2, Tribes: Aerial Assault (PS2), and Tribes: Vengeance.

Vengeance had a very good single-player campaign, I thought. But Tribes 2 is (and always will be) the favorite.

You can download it for free, FYI. Google it; some group brought back up some servers on which to run a freeware version of the game.

Really?! I'll have to hunt it down, perhaps you can post a link for all of us Tribes lovers?

Sure thing! :D

Note that you have to download both the full Tribes 2 client AND the multiplayer patch (both of which can be found in the boxes with dotted lines). Enjoy!

I have Tribes vengeance, i bought it for £4 and i thinks it's the best cheap ass game i've ever owned, i have to admit i did get bored when it started to become impossibley hard to play but god mode soon sorted that out.. lol ... i'd like to know if anyone would come online with me though... just to mess around.. the online maps look quite big and decent and the skiing feature combined with the jet pack would be amazing fun with another player... please reply to me soon,...
