So the game doesn't exist. Then what is the point of this comic? I get the reference with "saga" & there are in fact a bunch of indie games, but the two details seem unconnected in this case.
There's no joke, the last panel (where you'd think the punchline would be) is devoid of dialogue.
The joke is that they tricked people into searching for a game that doesn't exist.

...Dammit, I fell for your ploy. That's fine. I understand. You wanted this to happen, and you orchestrated it well. I accept this.

Just know, though.

From now on? I'm wary of your tricks, Carter. I might fall for them again, but I'm wary of them anyway.

Wait hold up what's the joke?! I don't get it!! D:
The layered joke sandwich:
1. The game doesn't exist

2. Grey understands the gaming community well enough to know that based on his silly "thoughts on the game" after the comic that people would look up the game out of interest and find none, then as intended go, "OHHHHH xD I can't believe I fell for that. Probably shouldn't believe everything I read from someone on the internet because I trust them."

3. It is humorous that Eren complains about there being so many indie games showing up that it is hard to even keep track of all the ones worth knowing about.

4. Tying it all up, we stumble into Eren's problem and assume the game exists and we haven't heard of it somehow BECAUSE there really are too many random indie hits lately.

5. That character being just so d@#$ crazy looking that we believed it would actually be in a JRPG.

I'm surprised how many people "fell for it" considering if the game was real then this comic wouldn't have a joke of any kind in it.

Also there's the fact that it couldn't look more like a parody if it tried.

So they're just a couple of trolls now?

Would of been nice if they explained that shit or gave some sort of clue. As it stands the comic is basically lying to the reader & the ultimate joke is that the reader is an lemming that'll believe anything. A joke is 100% less funny when you realize it's on you.

That said I'll give them points for being clever but this still isn't a joke, they're just lying & being trolls

People normally call something like this a practical joke. It's like sending someone who is on their first camping trip to look for a left handed smoke shifter, snipes or sky hooks. The humor in it is when you realize you'd been had and slap yourself on the forehead for being gullible enough to believe it.

._. Well, it's called humility. "Oh us gamers are a silly and predictable bunch sometimes." -Laugh laugh- The joke, can in fact, be on us. Sorry this one didn't entertain you.

"Still, Trinity Factor's crafting system is pure gaming crack, I quite literally can't get enough of it."

Meh. They pretty shamelessly ripped off the crafting system from The Stanley Parable (The second one, I mean.) It's hard to admire such blatant plagiarism.

Argh! Curse you, Carter! I've been waiting for another crafting-centric JRPG to lift me from the abyss since fuckin' Mana Khemia!

There was so much hope...
Ah yes, mana khemia... what the atelier series looked like back before some moron executive woke up one morning and said "you know what would make this already perfect crafting JRPG better? 500% more moe!" /facepalm

Count me among the number of persons fooled into googling. I frequently don't "get" the punchlines of critical miss, since the strips often feature niche indy games or MMORPG references, but in this case my desire to find out if the game really existed got the better of me.

it doesn't exist, though. *sigh* reality is a harsh mistress.

Who's the purple fellow in the lower right of the first panel? I recognize a few others, but not him.
Girl not guy, I can't remember her name, but she's from "They Bleed Pixels," a sort of sugar gothic version of Super Meat Boy.
That's her? Huh. Now I feel kinda ashamed, because I'm pretty sure I have that game but have yet to play it. I think it was a Humble Bundle. I shall have to give it a go next weekend.

So I'm not the only one that fell for it... not sure whether to be relieved or worried then...

The light purple spot where the nose should be is the giveaway, the character's hair is clipped back further, so it's not 100% exact, but what is. To be fair, that's the only one that I did recognize, and here I was looking for Bunny.
