I was wondering what you guys thought about the insane stunt Kyoani pulled yesterday(?)

To provide some backstory, Kyoani are the guys responsible for the insanely popular anime series 'The Melancholy Of Haruhi Suzamiya' which aired one series in 2006.

Recently they leaked that they would be broadcasting Haruhi, and everyone assumed it would the the long awaited (three frigging years and everyone was still hyped) second series. Kyoani however thought it would be funny to point out it was a RE-BROADCAST at the last minute. The internet raged mightily, better yet, somehwere in the middle of the series they started throwing in brand new episodes, chronologically between the old ones. Hurray!

Now here's the funny bit, without spoiling much, one of the episodes is based on a short story in which the characters are stuck in an infinite timeloop, (endless eight) This is a very short arc, but the THIRD episode in what should have been two at the most has just aired. What heppens in each episode you ask? Exactly the same thing, it's a tmeloop duh, they've broadcast the same episode three times, with tiny differences like what angles it's shot from. It's going for a fourth episode of this.

In short, is doing something that simply HAS to be designed to mock your fanbase win? I'm a huge fan of Haruhi, but frankly this is still hillarious.

I have no idea about any of this, but what you're describing sounds like very epic win indeed. They probably just did it for the lulz... ;)

That's absolutely hilarious and something that I would do if I ever got that immensely popular. However, I'd also bear in the mind the fact that I'd never be able to walk alone on the streets without being set on fire[b/].

The former bit was hilarious, and could quite easily be done for the lulz. I wouldn't put it past them, considering these are the guys behind Haruhi Suzumiya.

The second bit isn't Kyoani trolling anybody; that's what happens in the original novels.

The best bit is that their fanbase is completely feral. People were LIVID when they repeated it once with slight changes, the fact that they just did it a third time, and admitted they're going to do it again, is driving people to tears.

The best bit is that it's just so... Purposeful. They know exactly what they're doing.

I've read the novels, it's just the fact that they've translated this aspect to the screen, where it's truly painful to watch. At least it conveys why Yuki is so irritated later on, seeing as though it's happened 15499 times and she's the only one to keep her memory and just let it happen.

You guys didn't notice the biggest troll they made. part 3 of the endless eight, Nagato said that time had recurred 15,499 times. in the books, they stopped the loop at the 15,498th time.

I nearly shat bricks when I noticed

In this case, 'good' is entirely subjective. I'd prefer to use the term 'TOTALLYFUCKINGAWESOMELOLOLOL!!!!!!!!!1111oneoneone'.
