I find them annoying to but, why would we call them trolls? Trolls live under bridges and feed on goats. But couldn't a more appropriate name be used to describe them like Attention Whore?

There's a difference between a troll and an attention whore.

Why can't you just accept the fact that some things are named like that?

True, I know alot of girls who I would call attention whores but not trolls. Trolls just post random stuff on the internet in the hope of annoying someone, while attention whores just want everyone to look at them.

The term troll comes from 'trolling for suckers' which comes from a fishing technique in which you slowly drag a hook (usually with bait I guess) through the water and wait for the fish to strike. The image of the fantasy/folklore creature wasn't originaly intended but fit as these creatures are usually ugly, stupid brutes and Internet Trolls often come across as a similar sort of creature.

living under bridges and eating goats is a pretty apt metaphor for a forum troll if you think about it.
