SO, ladies and gentleman, yet another thread by me attempting to be interesting. Todays topic:

Real Life Trolls...

I bring this up because I had to deal with one over this past weekend. Albeit, it was over the internet, but I know the person in real life and expect some sort of childish outburst in person come tommorow.

So, my story... and this is all about Facebook surveys. Those pointless, mindless things that most people do as timepassers or for a small laugh. And there's nothing wrong with that to most people, but to these two (one being the troll, one just being a whiny *****) they're sins against humanity.

So, we will be refering to the whiny ***** as Whiny, the troll as, well, Troll, and me as me.
(These are the exact words, except for when I say otherwise. Anything in parenthesis are my commentary.)

Fair warning, ITS VERY FUCKING LONG. I'll spoiler it in parts and sum it up at the end.

Whiny: so i just decided to browse my friends notes here on good old facebook and i'm kinda sickened. its all bullshit quizzes and all that crap that was on myspace that i tried so hard to get away from. what the fuck, this is the internet people, dont you have any better ideas to share other than WHAT DISNEY CHARACTER ARE YOU!? ZOOOOMMMG!!!! seriously, what the fuck is this shit. im grossly disappointed. any opinions, ideas, questions, discussions, anything!? id like to think everyone i know isnt this useless, but unfortunately you all are convincing me otherwise.

(So, apparently, anyone who enjoys a little mindless timepasser from time to time is useless... wow. So, after a couple comments from friends, I step in.)

Me: How about you just don't read it if you don't like it? Tell people not to tag you and you won't have to deal with it. Simple as that. Some people find it to be a mildly entertaining way to pass the time... nothing wrong with a little mindlessness.
Just chill and ignore what you dont like. It's not like people will suddenly stop because of this rant.

Whiny: >>(my name)
READ A BOOK

(WOW. Really, that's the best she could come up with. Funny, and predictable. You see, whiny is your stereotypical Extreme Pessimist Stoner that thinks she's better than everyone else.)

Me: I do read books. I'm not going to be reading a book 24/7. Tell me, why does it piss you off so much when it's very, VERY easily avoided by simply ignoring it?

And, here he comes... the TROLL. And by the way, he, for some unknown reason, ends each post with the picture of a fist that says "copy and paste this, or you aren't a real bro". Think about that while reading all his posts- it makes them deliciously ironic.

Troll: LOL at butthurt plebs trying to defend the simplicity of their minds. Perhaps, instead of justifying the perpetuation of garbage that Willis is so rightfully opposed to, you should attempt to create something that requires an IQ of at least double digits to enjoy. Of course, creating original content requires imagination, creativity and hard work, and who would want to do that when you can just take some trash from myspace that makes pre-pubescent middle school Hannah Montana listening girls feel cute, unique and special, and repeat it ad nauseaum here? If you go here to pass time and be entertained, then you definitely need to READ A BOOK - maybe that'll raise your standards a little.

Me: (troll's name), is there any real reason here to insult like that? I'm trying to be mature about this, you're attacking me and people that enjoy this stuff instead of my points. Just because we can enjoy simplistic things doesn't mean we don't enjoy complex things. Personally, I believe life is much more bearable if you learn to enjoy both simplistic and complex forms of entertainment. If you can't be like that, so be it. No reason to start trying to tear me down.
Ever hear the term "live and let live"?

Whiny: lawl (Dead serious, there, that's all the input she's had since she started this.)

(Pretty reasonable, right? To each their own. But no.)

Troll: Alright, Alex, I will try to address the points that you're making. You propose ignoring this? Well, can you, really? New shit apps/myspace quizzes appear daily, making it impossible. I also know that Willis asked people countless times not to involve her in these mongoloid things, stating repeatedly that she doesn't see any value in this and would like to be left out. Did anybody listen? Apparently not. Then, of course, when you go to a friend's facebook page, all you see are this worthless e-vomit - what's the point? Who, except you, cares what your friends cataloged you under, or what Disney character fits your character best? Nobody. This garbage is a complete waste of space, bandwidth and time. Myspace went online in 2003? 2004? That's 5 or 6 years ago, and you're still reusing the same content! That's just sad and pathetic. It's not that it's just simplistic and infantile, it's that it's devoid of meaning or value!

(I'm going to be explaining something- keep this split in mind)

When someone says that they are enjoying things like these, I can't help myself but think of them a few cans short of a 6-pack. But thanks for being "mature" - you and the rest of the myspace userbase that think of themselves a such while giggling themselves stupid over being tagged as a pokemon with a personality/occupational trait underneath. It all boils down to this - original content or GTFO. Social networking sites have the worst of users - they are truly the garbage dump of the Internet. I wish this was 1994, when I had a 486 with Norton Commander and Win3.1, and an external 28.8 modem to dial into BBS' to get all my l33t Doom .wad's - before kiddies got onto my beloved Internet...

(This following post was made before he made that second paragraph, after the split I pointed out)

Me: Than I can understand how she's getting annoyed if she's told people not to include her... still, I'd call the act stupid and mindless, not the people.
Maybe the people are being a bit bitchy, though- it's possible they're trolling just to get a reaction from her.
Either way, thanks for addressing the points, and fair warning- if I need a quick time-passer, I'm still doing that stuff. And so are millions of others. Probably not the right site for you to be on if you hate that stuff, eh? (Not to sound like I'm saying "get used to it or GTFO", just stating a fact)

(And there we have it, me trying to be the peacemaker and even saying how I can understand how Whiny would be annoyed. You'd think that would make things come to an "agree to disagree" moment. BUT NO.)

Troll: >so are millions of others
Appeal to majority, man - a fallacy of logical reasoning. I already stated what I use this site for - scroll up if you forgot. Perhaps, if you don't want to be harassed about participating in braindead, culturally and mentally void activities that were made to appease pre-teen Britney Spears worshiping, hipster garbage ... Read MoreTwilight/Harry Potter fangirls, then myspace is the place for you. Just because this site opened up the floodgates and allowed all 12 year olds that are "mature for their age" in doesn't mean that you're given the license to act like them - you gotta respect yourself, be above that, strive to be better then a goddamn mongoloid myspace user! Of course, when one does not respect themselves, how can I possibly respect them? I can't - in my eyes, you're nothing but a waste of flesh and should have wound up a stain on your father's crusty sock.

WHAT THE FUCK? That's right! I'm a waste of flesh. Who knew? And someone who should have remained a stain on a sock, no less!

/facepalm

After this, a few friends of mine commented on what he said, as I had decided to no longer feed the troll. All posted in vain, as Whiny erased there comments, and Troll didn't see them. But, he eventually caught one. We'll call him FatalMatt, as thats what he's known as in gaming circles.

FatalMatt: (troll's name, misspelt purposefully as an insult) -whatever the fuck your name is. You need to back the fuck up you piece of shit. Watch what you say to my friends or you will get your fucking ass handed to you. You seriously take facebook so seriously. People post notes to pass the time. Get the fuck over and fuck you (Whiny), books fucking suck and notes are fun. Don't like it? fucking leave

(So, although it doesn't add much to the conversation, and although he's wrong in saying "books fucking suck", he's noble nontheless.)

Troll: (FatalMatt's name, mispelled purposefully as an insult, which is ironic because it's very easy to spell)-whatever the fuck your name is. You need to go the fuck back to school. Watch what you say in public or everybody will know just how uneducated, uncultured and developmentally retarded you are. You are in serious denial if you think that I am not laughing at you right now. People read books both to pass the time and because they want to learn things that they wouldn't otherwise. Get the fuck over and fuck your friends, facebook fucking sucks and books are fun. Don't like to read? fucking leave this country

(Now, the funny thing here is that Troll is obviously foreign and not native to America. I won't state where he's from, but his accent is VERY heavy, showing that he probably hasn't been living in the country for an extensive amount of time. Basically... fail. And here comes another friend to assist. We'll call him Brian because... well... that's his name, and anyone who's seen my movie already even knows his face. Also, someone on these forums knows him. Other than myself.)

Brian: OK, first off, different people like different things. Some think books are amazing, others don't. In the same vein, some people like to pass the time with harmless quizzes and stuff on Facebook. If you don't like that, you don't have to do it, but don't go around dismissing others as "simple-minded" because they enjoy it. I do enjoying doing a or something, they can be fun and occasionally humorous. I also like to read. In fact, I WANT TO BE AN AUTHOR. And yet, I also do some "stupid" things like Facebook quizzes. According to both of you (Matt and Dmitri) those two should never meet. You're both wrong and frankly acting idiotic. What is the big deal?

Oh, and Dmitri: Thanks for preaching "constructive entertainment" and dissing the "simple-mindedness" of internet culture..... WHILE POSTING A SPAM MESSAGE ON EVERY ONE OF YOUR POSTS. Hypocritical much?

Troll: If you're an aspiring author, then you should understand the importance of literature! There isn't a universal standard for a book that people use to decide whether or not they like reading them - a book is a medium to carry information - there are books on every subject possible, written in every style ever invented by man. To say that "books suck", as my mongoloid foil did, is a mark of a truly backwards mind. I think that you're way off when you say that the facebook garbage in question is harmless - I'd argue that it's one of the things that draws in illiterates and kiddies (basically myspace users) who are "mature for their age" onto this site, while adding nothing of value - every dimwit can copy and paste, spend a minute typing and feel accomplished and happy that they were remembered by their "friends" - I'd rather spend time with people face to face, hang out, do stuff, rather then click "poke" a million times like some braindead idiot.
Some people try to become authors by reading and writing, going out there and experiencing life and building a frame of reference for future works. Some spend their time trying to figure out what Disney movie princess they are. I guess the future will show which approach is more successful. Also, you don't like the BRO FIST? Maybe next time you decide to represent your friends' personalities through Pokemon, you'll think about how much being spammed with useless shit sucks.
Allow me to refresh your memory- (Then he continues to post the bro-fist again. Oh, the irony)

Brian: I most certainly think Matt was completely wrong in saying "books suck." I also think you are completely wrong in saying "facebook quizzes suck." Have you taken a moment to look at what you're saying? You are condemning people for trash talking about what you like (in this case, books), then turning around and trashing what they find enjoyable! Tell me what alternate universe you're living in that that makes sense.
And yes, it IS harmless, in the same way that, say, walking on the beach is harmless. Wh y does everything someone does have to be productive? What "value" can you possibly find in fun other than.... fun? For god's sake, you assume that everyone taking Facebook quizzes is an illiterate moron. Why can't I take a quiz and see what Disney movie describes me JUST FOR FUN? It's not like I'm going to base my life off what it gives me: "OMG Lion King? I'm going to kill my uncle?!" Again, just because YOU don't like something, it doesn't give you the right to condemn those who do.
....I'm still not sure what to make of the Bro Fist argument. You, sir, are a hypocrite of the first degree.

So there you have it. Anyone who enjoys a little mindless fun and that doesn't read 24/7 is a waste of flesh and Hannah Montanta/Britney Spears loving ***** that lives on MySpace.

Ugh... the entire situation makes me sick.

... Yes, this was basically a rant. I've spoken to friends about it, but I also want to both see what my fellow Escapists thought about it and to see if any of you guys have had to deal with trolls in real life. Any interesting stories?

Hi, Alex.

But in all seriousness, I've been trolled at my D&D meetings when people see me with my Apple Choke Chain (aka my iPhone)
It's complete bullshit to troll me for it because I already troll MYSELF on it.

Uh, nice story? Seriously though, I agree with the "troll". Were you posting this to see who won the argument? I don't get it. Facebook quizzes are stupid and stuff.

You should have left it at a difference of opinion, maybe.

There's a difference though- I respect people that don't like them and think they're stupid. But to insult everyone that does enjoy them? It's just wrong! It's trolling! Especially since he said I was a waste of flesh (and therefore so was everyone else who enjoys them) even though I just disagreed with him.

And it was more to spark discussions about other people's dealings with trolls in real life, and sharing opinions/stories about them.

100% no sarcasm, cool story bro.
This is the one place I can post that and have it be appropriate.

I really don't think this forum knows what a Troll is, and how to tell them apart from a common jerk.

I totally get that, I'm just saying instead of "trolling" it was more just him having an opinion, in a conversation that you were free to leave at any time, right? In those situations, instead of arguing with the guy, you should have just stopped talking to him, but it appears you had a lengthy conversation.

It is true, I have a problem backing out from something if I feel I can reach an agreemant- that's why I left the second the massive insult happened.

WEll, I deal with trolls the old fashioned way. I go third billy goat on their asses. But in all seriousness, a scathing dose of sarcasm usually does the trick for me.

Side discussion! Is a guy enjoying and even dancing a bit to a katy perry song kinda gay?
