I was just wondering if someone could enlighten me as to what a troll is. Also what are your, The Escapists, opinion on them.

People that come to sites to do nothing but cause flame wars, and to just generally annoy people (at least I think)... I dunno, some trolls (that aim to get banned in under 10 posts) can be kinda funny/enjoyable in an odd sort of way...

Think of someone who hides under bridges and eats goats. Now picture what they'd do online.

Trolls are the lowest form of person. Also their deprived sense of humour tells you they're always either a child, or the mental equivalent.

Real trolls are people who take the mask of an asshole/idiot or manipulate morons to teach society/a certain group of people a lesson.

The dumbtard fake trolls that you see all over the internet are idiots who think what the real trolls are doing is hilarious and want to do it as well, only they seem to have missed the whole point.(aka the "teach a lesson" bit)

I have a margin of respect for the first kind. I personally think there are better ways to get a point across, but I understand what they are doing.
The second kind aren't even worth my attention. Or anyone elses, for that matter.

Post articles on how to cook a goat and articles on best bridges to hide beneath?
That's how I picture them spending their time while they're not Goatsie-ing the /B/ forum.

In gamer terms, watch an episode of Zero Punctuation, but take out the second parts of each quip which both curtail the offensiveness of the former and add the humor.

They're creatures that work extremely well in the workshop but aren't that great at fighting.
I train them to level 10 anyway, because on many maps I rely on traps/doors to support my dungeon if no jewels are around.
Personally, I prefer Orcs, though, because they can build stuff almost as well, are better fighters and want very little pay.
I hope that helps.

Also known in its highest form as the Adequacy-Style Troll [http://www.kuro5hin.org/story/2003/7/18/205013/523], after the website that specialised in the art [http://adequacy.org/].

Trolls are disruptive, and so generally a bad influence. But there are times when trolling can be appropriate. For example, on a forum where people share hateful views, like a white supremacist message board, it would be fair enough; these people have it coming, and with a little lot of luck and some skill you might even get someone to question their prejudices. Also, on a forum that is simply boring from an overabundance of harmony, a well-executed troll could spice things up a bit. But this is like saying that some fat in your diet can be good for you: it only applies if you're not already eating too much fat. There are waaaay more trolls on the internet than we ever need, screwing things up for everyone.

Closely related to the griefer, in multiplayer games.

Sorry, dude, a Keeper's gotta look out for himself first. How are your spiders and flies doing? Still eating each other? Heh.

Holy crap! I haven't seen (or thought about) that game in years. I remember it came free with my first computer a LOOOONG time ago. Thanks for the nostalgia.
