While I admire you folks dedication to scientific rigour, trying to precisely define what a troll is, is a largely irrelevant. All you need to know is that if you see a post that you think is inappropriate, for whatever reason, hit the report button and a moderator will take a look at it. We might not agree with your assessment, but someone will definitely take a look.
I would agree with most of the points presented there, but posting first and having an obscenely high post count do not necessarily indicate a troll. Trolls do tend to post a lot, because they know they'll be kicked pretty soon, but users who only want to contribute and have a laugh also have high post counts.
As a rough rule of thumb, the more hostile and deliberately offensive a user is, the more likely it is that they're a troll. And if your helpful advice just causes them to get even more aggressive, then hitting the "Report" button is probably a good idea.

I just saw a troll as someone who says/does something to intentionally piss people off, but apparently, according to people at my college, I'm wrong. A troll to them is anyone that has an opinion other than theirs. For example, I said I find RTS games boring because all you do is collect resources, build buildings, build units, attack the enemy, and that I can't tell a difference between Starcraft and Age of Empires. He said that was trolling and that Age of Empires sucks. But, no, his saying AoE sucks isn't trolling because apparently it is true.
