Ok, I realise that morality is subjective and what may be good for one person is not necessarily good in someone else's perspective, BUT!!!!, does anyone on the escapist know someone who does things they consider 'right' without getting joy from it, they just do it cause it is right and for know selfish reason whatsoever?

BTW, this was inspired by the lying thread where someone was pointing out that charity workers only do charity work because they feel good about doing it.

If you do not know someone like that, has there ever been a single instance where you have done something you consider right despite not wanting to do it, and not feeling good about it afterwards?

I'd say working gives me that feeling. I hate doing it, but when all is said and done, I feel a pleasure unique to working on something of my own effort.

This was in Friends right? I remember that episode :)

No I don't think it can be done unless it's by accident.

This is very very wise.

Also respecting the relationships of others, thats an important one.

I've done such things a lot. It might just be me that is emotionally hollow, but at least I have no doubts you can as you say, do the right thing without gaining anything, not even warm fuzzy feelings. At some times I've even felt slight regret over doing said right thing, but I did anyway.

With that being said, I don't think rewarding emotions means we're really selfish when we help people, as the emotion could originate from your internal "goodness" in the first place.

I always find this a very dubious proposition. You probably would feel good about giving away a million dollars but I very much doubt that you feel as good as you would if you'd kept the million (unfortunately, I'm yet to be in a position to test this).
