What would you say constitutes as a truly scary game? Not scary moments, but scary game as a whole, a game that made you look in the corners of the room at night in worry while rapidly making the trigger button motion with your finger as you tried to assure yourself that Stay Alive couldn't possibly happen.

Fatal Frame 2 and 3, those games traumatized me

FF2: The Crimson Butterfly excelled when it came to atmosphere, so I shall go with that.

Have you tried Yahtzee's games? The first is 5 days a stranger. Check it out. But don't ask me how to get it.

Resident Evil 2 gave me nightmares for days after watching my brother play it, however i was like 7 and far too used to the happy, colourful games like mario and megaman.

Now certain moments are unsettling (the school locker room in Condemned springs to mind) but i can't say I've played anything scary

Try Siren, it can get pretty creepy.
I've only played Blood Curse, but I heard the original is quite good (if a little campy)

Blood Curse, however, is actually pretty good, and comes highly recommended.

The original clock tower, that helpless feeling you get when that little bastard with the giant scissors show up and hovers around your hiding spot. "Is he gonna see me? when will he go away? Can he hear me breathing ? NYAAAAHHH!"

Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem, Silent Hill 2-4, and ANY Fatal Frame game. That shit will leave you awake for months.

I was talking about the first one, haven't played the second one. The sight jacking feature is certainly interesting.

I like to go to the Mod community when I want to banish restful sleep.

Afraid of Monsters: Directors Cut was merciless. Where other games would give you a moment to stop and take a breath, this mod (for the original Half-life) relentlessly picks at your mind, turning your own thoughts and imagination on you.

For instance, it features something to the effect of the "Director" from Left 4 Dead.

You just left that room? You really sure it's empty? *shudders*

I just started playing Penumbra and I haven't seen any monsters yet, but that is precisely why I'm so freaked out by it. Scary game so far. I kind of don't want the mystery to end as to what the monsters look like, so hopefully they don't disappoint when they finally manifest.

I came here to mention that game. I'm so happy it was part of that bundle, it will give people a chance to experience it.
...They won't disappoint.

Is it really that scary? Haha man, I don't know if I can play it alone now. >_<
