From what I remember, Obama initially intervened to protect them and then later on kinda held his hands up while the private security forces of the oil company were abusing them and planting guns in trucks and so on. In any case though, this is the first time I see a native people angle to the Bundy situation in fact so I'm kinda confused. I heard a lot of coverage of it, most from the lefty side of things, and nobody brought that point up before.

As for the pardoning, that's him throwing red meat to his base more than anything, I don't think he cares either way about them.
No, this went all the way until his inauguration if you look at the timeline. The hill article above was for December 2016. It wasn't Obama who allowed that BS to happen, it was the GOP state of North Dakota. The Republican governor and attorney general of North Dakota tried to charge the film crew for being there to film the illegal attack rather than prosecute the illegal dog handlers at the time. The GOP governor and Attorney general were helping the Pipeline company. listen to the what she says in the video linked above, North Dakota put out a warrant for her arrest for reporting on the dog attacks. North Dakota officials were angry the protesters were there and were holding up work on the pipeline. She went into some of that in the video I posted above. It was the Republicans in North Dakota doing that BS , not Obama. Obama was trying to help them, but he was leaving office so there was not much he could do. It was Trump that ultimately went after them again and FINALLY a judge intervened again :

They have been fighting Trump this entire time.

I actually brought up the tribal issues on Escapist v1 at the time here on the wildlife refuge.

Personally, I think sedition laws have a particular intention and using them to clear up mere protest is not a sensible or reasonable way to go.

When sleazy lawyers start trying to widely reinterpret laws to grant the government considerably more authoritarian power than it already has without even jumping through the hoops of enacting new legislation, it's not a good sign.

Isn't this a response to the formation of the CHAZ? From what I see here, this is Trump's way of ensuring people won't get their neighborhood taken over by random crazy people who proclaim it to be a new country and start policing who goes in and out, extorting residents for money, defacing the buildings, shooting and raping people and growing vegetables on cardboard with a bit of topsoil scattered above it.

Sure, it's not a good thing, but the thing it fights is worse, which is why those people are incredibly idiotic for giving Trump an excuse to go full fascist by presenting us with an even worse alternative than that.
Well, generally, if an administration overreacts to a situation, it doesn't go well for the administration. It's why a whole bunch of governors are sitting on their hands... because they know what happens when you get too authoritarian. It turns almost everyone against the government.

Is it still in bad taste to make jokes about the NRA belatedly getting round to defending freedom? Cause this is exactly the sort of thing they claim to be about.
