Pretty sure teaching American history as evangelicalism is just Mormonism. But what this is about is teaching patriotism and nationalism, which they see critical race theory and 1619 as directly opposed to (just look at what the actual "anti-CRT" laws actually prohibit).
So... you dont know what 1619 or CRT is

Got it

No, I'm saying look at the "anti-CRT" laws and see what they actually prohibit. Then consider that those tings are what the authors of those laws perceive as being aspects of CRT, and that those things are the sort of things that conservatives *mean* when they talk about CRT as opposed to the rather obtuse field of legal scholarship that has started to bleed out into other things.

As for the 1619 project, it's a series of article about American history that very prominently frame everything in terms of antebellum slavery. The same conservatives calling for "patriotic education" and opposing what they are calling "critical race theory" (again, look at the anti-CRT laws for examples of what they mean when they refer to it) are also not fond of the 1619 project either.

You know, there are heaps of African Americans who get cranky over 1619. It starts with saying 12 black slaves were brought to America in 1619.... but they were indentured, like most other race.

The deliberate move to slaving a race happened later. And not just by what would become the US. The US then did some f'ed up laws around slavery.

So 1619 should be that African Americans used to get treated better 400 years ago compared to 200. It's a story about how laws can go real bad if you aren't mindful

But 1619 project forces a round peg into a square hole
