So I'm back with another game that's been out a while that I'm just now picking up. Yes I know, silly me.

This time it's Dragon Age: Origins.

The kicker this time is that I'm not even sure I want the game, I'm playing it because I have been really, really bored the past few days and I wanted to give it a chance because it's a Bioware game and I love Mass Effect.

My query this time is about the bucketload of DLC that's available for DA:O. Here's the complete list.

Return to Ostagar - 400 points
Stone Prisoner - 1200
Warden's Keep - 560
Leliana's Song - 560
Darkspawn Chronicles - 400
Golems of Amgarrak - 400
Witch Hunt - 560

Total: 4240 Microsoft points.

That is a lot, however, I am perfectly willing to pay that if it is worthwhile to me.

Now to hopefully get your aid in finding out whether it is or not.

I don't care about any extra gear I obtain through DLC, I won't buy it for that. I don't care about challenge packs where there is no story and just gameplay, I won't buy it for that. I want DLC that actually has story that ties in with the main tale and lore of the game world.

To go back to Mass Effect for examples: Bringing Down the Sky was a story pack that fleshed out the backstory of what happened between the Humans and the Batarians, tying it into the main story and making it worthwhile.

Pinnacle Station was a challenge pack, a completely non-disguised gaggle of time trial/survivor etc game modes with no story. To me, this was not worthwhile.

So, I beseech the Escapist userbase, which of the DA:O DLC is story (worthwhile) and which is challenge (not worthwhile)?

I'd go with: Ostagar, Warden's Keep, and Witch Hunt.

I actually haven't played With Hunt because it's mostly for people who really like Morrigan or those who romanced her. Didn't want to pay for that.

Ostagar is a definite yes, it leads to some poignant moments and makes the story more cohesive to me. Also gives a bit more finality to some things, without getting spoilery.

Warden's Keep is fun and has a nice story, but it's not related to the central plot very much.

Stone Prisoner is great, adds a new character and some locations, but expensive and not related to the central plot.

Haven't played the other three.

Wait a minute .. can't you but the Ultimate Edition for next to dirt cheap anyways as in costs less than the game plus any dlc?

Oh wait you are on XBOX sorry, didn't read the whole post.

I'd do Return to Ostagar, and there is a tip in the spoiler below if you want better loot from a chest if you decide to get it.

In the beginning of the game there is a man in a cage, a prisoner that will give you a key to a chest, leave it alone until you do the DLC and it will have better loot in it.

Warden's Keep I found to be fun as well. It goes into the back story of the Wardens.

I believe Stone Prisoner is the one that lets you get another team member to your party, not sure since I have the Ultimate Edition and just kinda played the game.

And Witch Hunt details some story about Morrigan, and Leliana's Song goes into some story about Leliana.

Yes, yes I can buy the ultimate edition -_-. I only bought the copy I have because I was bored and wanted a game to play, I didn't know I'd actually buy DA:O until I did.

I guess I'll be returning this copy and getting the ultimate edition online or something. Easy fix.

Thanks for the info guys.
