Trying to join a TF2 game

I'm new to the game, as you probably guessed, and there's a tiny little problem. I can't find any servers. I played for a while last night on a server that a Steam friend was playing on (that's how I found it), but when I click on browse servers the list doesn't populate, at all. 'Start Playing' has the same problem: it gets stuck on retrieving server information forever, and consequently I'm only able to play on one server. I think it might be related to my firewall, but I have no idea how to fix that, and TF2 doesn't show up on my PC as a program to allow.

I believe the program is Half-life or something to that effect since it's all run off the source engine (I could be wrong I just disabled my firewall a long time ago because of this problem)

if not try adding different server to your favorites, finding IP's shouldn't be a problem and there are several groups/clans that have multiple servers.

I frequent the Free Frag Network's servers they have a bunch of them (from payload to a mix of all and a couple 24/7 capture the flag maps). or maybe the server your friend is playing on has more than the one server.

In any case if you'd like some pointers and maybe an item or two feel free to add me (currently unsure of my steam ID since I'm at work) I always love playing with someone new.

Sadly, I don't have any solid info to help you, but I did find a thread on the Steam forums from someone having the same issue.
