So, last night I was up till almost three am. I just couldnt sleep, couldnt relax. So i started thinking about how awesome it would be to have a CD i could just play quietly to help my get into a relaxed mood. Then I thought about what songs i would put on them and came up with these (so far):

The road and the radio, Kenny Chesney
Landslide, Smashing Pumpkins
Vanilla Twilight, Owl City
Epiphany, Staind
Nightswimming, R.E.M.

So... any suggestions?

and for a discussion value, what songs honestly help you relax? Like, what at the end of a long day helps you settle into a chair, couch, bed, whatever, etc and just let that slip off. And if you want to say anyhting that helps while you listen, shoot, but this is more about the music aspect.

Prepare to be extremely relaxed, or if you don't like this kind of music, extremely annoyed.

It's kind of on the upbeat side, but it really does help me relax. I love this guys instrumental work. Beautiful.

EDIT:

Wait, this one actually, how could I possibly forget Song of the Sun.

not really relaxing, per se, but White Zombie always cheers me up.

for relaxing i'd probably have to go for Chopin, or else late 80s and newer Einstuerzende Neubauten. maybe some Ben Folds. maybe Rasputina.

I can't find any clips on YouTube, but there is an album called Stanze on iTunes by Chailly Cecilia and Ludovico Einaudi. If you listen to the previews it gives you a good idea for what it is. Very ambient, calm, no more than one or two instruments playing at a time. No lyrics either, which does wonders for my relaxation.

If you prefer something with a little more substance, try the album "The Nine Worlds" by Achillea (also on iTunes. All of the songs flawlessly transition from one to the next, so there's never that sudden change in volume level or energy that you get with some other albums. Here's a sample of one of the songs from that album.

I have a few that are great.

As you can see, Bob Marley is king at this type of stuff.

Swing Life Away by Rise Against. Just don't dwell on the lyrics for too long!

But this is what I was thinking. There are other songs, but that's what popped into my head first.

Anything off of Jack Johnson's Inbetween Dreams or Newton Faulkner's Handbuilt By Robots is probably a good bet too.

To me it is the Pixar UP soundtrack as long you don't think about the depressing scene.
