Hey guys,

I've recently felt the need to play a good pc turn based strategy game along the lines of Heroes of Might and Magic or Disciples, but I don't know if they even make those kinds of games anymore. Anyone know of any good ones that have come out more recently, that will be compatible with a newer computer (still XP) and widescreen resolutions? Any input is much appreciated!

Disciples 2 works just fine under XP, same goes for Heroes of Might and Magic 4 & 5.
A more recent release would be "King's Bounty: the Legend".

Not sure if the game is any good, haven't played it yet.

I think Fallout 1, 2, and Tactics could be considered Turn-based strategy RPGs. Definitely check them out if you haven't played them.

Edit: Oops, got ahead of myself and didn't see the part about "ones that came out recently."

I highly recommend Fallout 1 & 2, I'm not sure about Fallout: Tactics though, as I haven't had time to try it for real yet.

EDIT: Who saw that coming?

Well it depends on exactly what you mean. Medieval 2: Total War is technically turn based (with real time battles) and its really fun and can keep you occupied for a long time.

Beat me to it. I still play HoMM3, but I'm planning on picking up 5...someday. 4 was pretty good, but has a different way of doing (most) things, and I haven't yet played 5. Sadly, the sequels are the only games I can think of that do the same genre...

I actually haven't played Tactics either, but from what I've seen, the gameplay seems very similar to it's predecessors.

I would recommend Age of Wonders 2 : Shadow Magic. Not exactly as good as HoMM oder Disciples 2, but the story is quite entertaining and you have several aspects adopted from the old "Masters of Magic".

Awesome. I can't get enough of HoMM. I'll be playing those games until I die.

Sadly, I don't think they make those kinds of games anymore.

Final Fantasy Tactics is a horribly difficult turn-based strategy RPG, in that you don't stand in a row anymore but you move your troops about and fight tactically.

The Battle for Wesnoth [http://www.wesnoth.org/] Fantastic, free, indie turn-based strategy.

I'd recommend having a look at a couple of more classic games since turn-based games are out of fashion these days.

Good old Games [http://www.gog.com/] Plenty to choose from here.

HoMM5 is pretty recent, I think...and I read some...thing, some...where that said there should be another some...time...ish. I can't really remember, but I'm pretty sure they're still being made.
