So I'm enjoying Terra Nova, but I'm getting a little sick of the self-righteous "we had a 3rd kid and got punished waaaaah" thing. It makes sense to be on the main characters side in our current western world, after all how dare they limit our reproductive freedoms!
But in the context of the show? Talk about irresponsible behaviour. The world of the future the show illustrates is buggered up something chronic, with a large over population problem. Limiting reproduction is common-sense.
Personally I wouldn't just issue a blanket "2 kids and done" thing, I'd likely give incentives for people to not have kids, tax breaks/etc. along with exceptions for people who serve the common good (example Doctor and Cop? yeah they get an extra kid licence).
But that is besides the point, my point is TV shows are less about making sense in the context of the world they are building, with exceptions like Game of Thrones, and more about overlaying our morality onto a completely different situation, and it just plain doesn't make sense. It's bad writing.
Also, I hate children on TV, please less air time for the little snot eaters.
