1. The Simpsons (S1-S8)- Miles ahead of any show that has or will ever grace the tube.

2. Arrested Development- Killing this show was the biggest travesty of the Fox Network since not killing Zombie Simpsons.

3. Breaking Bad- Starts out excellent, just keeps getting better.

4. Twin Peaks- Brilliant, but left open ended.

5. Firefly- Oh, Fox. Again?

HM: Dexter- without the drop in quality each season, it would have easily been at least #3.

Were you counting individual seasons or just emphasizing the extent to which the show is awesome?
A bit of both! Favorite is probably season 2, then 1, then 4.

As I am thinking about what to write here, I am realizing I may have a bit of a TV problem...

Oh, and Netflix instant streaming isn't helping either, because now I keep discovering more and more awesomeness.

I am going to give myself some to answer the favorites of all time (although my avatar might you give you a slight tip of the hat for something on my list there... I am wearing a matching t-shirt to that right now too!), and I will answer limiting myself to the stuff I couldn't live without, on the air, in the last year:

Community
Chuck
Sherlock
Psych
I'm loving Falling Skies so far
Breaking Bad (OMG when will it start already?!?!?!)
Phineas & Ferb (don't judge me - just watch it! I discovered it while babysitting and now I am addicted)
Love Bites (we just discovered it last night ondemand - it looks like a keeper)
Walking Dead

I'm sure I'm forgetting something, but I'll leave it at that!

Maybe you aren«t mature enough to be able to watch a series without fights.
GoT has some fights later but it's not the principal thing in the series.

It's really just about characterization and development, at least the 1st season, I haven't read the books. In terms of characters leaves Lotr far far behind, they are a bit simple. And I am a Lotr fan.
Quickly jumping to the conclusion that I'm not mature enough, well done.
I am perfectly able to watch a series without fights, but in my humble opinion, a series set in a scene like GoT must have a certain focus on barbaric themes, therefore I feel that it misses what I expected it to be.
If I offended you when I expressed my feelings towards GoT, I am deeply sorry.

That's my exact order too! What did you think about season 5?
A lot of people didn't think it was as good but I loved it, the new setting was entirely believable and the new characters were well introduced- just like the dock workers of season 2, and nobody complained about new characters back then!

I really did love it, actually, despite my feeling extremely frustrated and anxietal about McNulty's story line. I think it actually contributed to my feeling any sort of closure with the characters. It really felt like a desperate but realistic last-ditch effort for a detective to stay relevant within his department and it brilliantly mirrors Scott Templeton's ambitions with the Baltimore Sun, instantly providing a surrogate back story for a newly-introduced character as well as providing grounds for a debate whether or not the falsification of data could be tolerated for the greater good in a subversion of the strictest definition of justice.

It is still nice to see that great writing can, in fact, offset the most rampant of fanboyish protest against the introduction of new characters while tying up the loose ends of older ones in a satisfying way. Although...

I WOULD TAKE IT ALL OF SEASON FIVE BACK IF I KNEW OMAR WOULD STILL BE ALIVE!!! I DON'T CARE IF CHRIS IS HIS SURROGATE, HE'S NOT FUCKING OMAR!!! THE CHEESE DOES INDEED STAND ALONE!!!

...but I can live with it, despite my innermost loyalties.

Aqua Teen Hunger Force
Spaced
Mystery Science Theater 3000
Metalocalypse
Doctor Who
Space Ghost Coast to Coast
Firefly
Scrubs

This is in no particular order, but I love all of these shows equally and there is no way to pick a top five or even an all time favorite.
