I have had an odd problem for many years now and am only now trying to fix it. Now I have tried a bit before, but never really delved deep into it to find the problem.

Simply it sounds like my sound is literally turned around 90°, I notice this is mostly in first-person and third-person video games. My right side in the game seems to be my back, and going counter clock wise, my front seems to be my right, my left is front and my back is my left, in terms of how I hear voices and sounds.

So lets say I am in a game like Skyrim or Red Dead, if I am walking beside someone, and he is on my right, I can barely hear a word he says as if he was behind me. Another example is in Skyrim in the intro, when I am in the horse carriage and the horse thief starts to talk I can't hear him very well unless I turn to face him, because he is on my right side.

So my question is how do I fix the sound to be where it should be? For the record I am using a Standerd Definition Television.

Thanks Escapist!

Hey, I have the same problem and the same TV. :/

In my case, it is very notorious when I'm playing Rock Band. Let's say I'm playing Bohemian Rhapsody and I'm at the part where they say Galileo back and forth. I only hear one side say Galileo and then a pause instead of the other side singing. I also have the same problems in games like Red Dead; exact same problem.

So what kind of system are you using? I mean, I don't have a specific answer, I'll tell you that right now. But in my case, I have a (old) 60GB PS3. I tried looking into that. Some people told me it was the wiring, the AV cable, maybe. I tried using a new AV cable and nothing. I thought maybe my PS3 was set for HD setting but nope, that was not it. I set up a thread in the PS forums but no one replied. My friends have told me old models have problems like that. And I'm pretty sure it IS my system because my 360 and my Wii sound just fine, even with a SDTV.

So yeah, sorry I can't be of any help. What I'm thinking of doing i taking my system to one of those place where they fix it for you. I'm sure there is SOMETHING wrong with my PS3 and I'm also sure whatever it is, I can't fix it because I'd end up breaking it or something. Well, that's just me.

Hmmm, interesting. For me it is actually my Xbox 360 that is giving me the problems, and now that I am thinking about it my PS3 seems to be fine, but I am not 100%, because most games I have on there are RPG type games, I'll have to boot up Demon Souls or Dead Space to find out. I only ever notice the problem with my 360. Maybe you are right about the AV cable as I have never thought about it, but as you say it didn't solve your problem, so I have my doubts it will solve mine, but I'll try my old Xbox AV cable out.

I thought maybe it was a sound problem in the core settings of the system, that I had to "sync" up the sound properly with the TV, but now I don't know...I wish I had money for a new HDTV right about now. It might be my TV that is giving me the problem, but your problem is definitely your console if your other systems work fine.
