Tv, yay or nay?

Aren't "passive viewer" services such as NetFlix and YouTube (and DVDs/Blurays) simply television. It's the same thing isn't it? Do we really feel superior to people who tune in to real-time broadcasts selected by professionals because we select the trash we watch from a list (or a collection or recommendation) and watch it on a laptop, tablet or phone instead of a dedicated screen? Are we so stunted in our imagination that we cannot believe that broadcast services (excepting sports, news, and some events) are less popular than choosing what, when and where you consume your video?

In other news, who makes telephone calls anymore? I use a SIP client on my mobile.

I rarely ever watch TV these days, the internet does fine for me and video games tell a better story then most tv series. the only channel that's on in my house usually is BBC News in the background as my dad sits on his PC talking to his friends or browsing the internet.

I don't fee; superior to TV watchers in anyway, it's just an interesting trend I noticed that I and a few people I know have gotten into. It of course comes down to what you watch- the programming I mostly consume (in general) is youtube stuff, reviews and so on, stuff I can't see on TV generally. I find that television channels (Here in the UK at least)are rarely showing something that interests me. That, as well as the whole when you want, is what makes services like Netflix and the pick and choose aspect more appealing.

So yeah, I hope that's cleared it up. Never meant it as we're the superior master race of viewing!

Yeah, I still do... But, nowadays, it's mostly on as "white noise" unless it's actually something I was actually planning to watch in the first place... like a [cartoon] rerun on a channel that only shows that particular show or an uncut movie/show on IFC... or Toonami, to be honest... I kinda wish I could take that plunge into the life of just using streaming movie/TV show service(s) like how one of my friend's has basically, but I have yet to find that "perfect" streaming service, at least in the "of course we have that particular show and/or movie you love to death and it's always going to be there waiting for you no matter what" kind of way...

In other words, I'm picky as fuck when it comes to using my friend's Netflix account... "What do you mean they stopped streaming XYZ?"

There are plenty of tv shows I keep up with, but I overwhelmingly watch them online using catch-up services like BBC iPlayer. I didn't think I'd miss having a TV (or at least a TV license, which enables you to watch some stuff live online) when I went to university, but actually I did, because sports.

I'm not a massive sports fan, but I do like to watch a few things - horse racing, international rugby, international football, stuff like the Olympics - and I like to watch them live if at all possible. For that reason alone I'll definitely get a TV when I get my own place.

I don't think I have honestly watched a TV show on a TV for about... 8 years. Give or take a year.
Most shows on television now I find to be rather boring, and the only show that I do want to watch I watch online. With services like Netflix, I find it very hard to justify watching television at this point in my life. That said, I do find myself watching a lot of anime recently, and I doubt there is any way to watch said anime on television here in the states.

Never watch tv anymore. The commercials are awful and the the show times are just not convenient. Anything I really want to watch you can find online anyways.

I stopped as soon as i got internet and that was a long time ago. Mostly because there is nothing worth watching and if there is then you probably already seen it and if not it's still ruined by a horrible Lithuanian dub with one out of sync voice actor for everyone.

I hardly ever watch TV anymore. The only things I make sure to tune in for are Archer, The Walking Dead, and The Talking Dead. I'll also put on FX or Comedy Central if something marginally good is on while I'm eating. Other than that, I only use my TV for watching DVDs and Bluerays. I've got my 360 plugged into it, but I haven't even started that up in months.

I don't really watch TV anymore because most of what is on at any given moment just bores me. There's some good shows for sure, but nothing which makes me want to schedule my week around specific times/days they are on.

Generally the TV is for vidya games, dvds, and the occasional on-demand movie if it's free.

I rarely watch things live- I like to buy the box sets, so I can watch them at my own pace and don't need to be subscribed to anything or pay any money (save buying the things)
