Hang on. Im British and have recently enjoyed that very excellent American show The Wire, which is showing on BBC2. Now that programme had more than 3 swear words in the first 30 seconds of the show let alone the hour it lasts. How is that shown in the states then?

Depends on what channel you're watching. During the day, they'll bleep curse words out sometimes--depending on what they are. At night though, it really varies.

HBO, for example, can basically show whatever the hell they want. Even Cartoon Network allows swearing in their midnight line-ups.

So--it's okay. We have sexy violence to make up for our lack of explicit sex and tits.

I still have a hard time wrapping my little head around the whole "swear word" thing. What the fuck is the problem? Why do people (particularly a certain type of American) get so bent out of shape about them?

I think that's why American's get so freaked out when they come to England and find out that most of us use swearwords in every sentence.
What a magnificent country you live in. I always thought it was the opposite.
Spoken like someone who's never been in a GTA deathmatch with a bunch of British kids.

In America it's on HBO, which is a adult oriented channel with adult oriented programs (The Sopranos, Sex in the City) than can get away with violence, swears and nudity.

I read that as Mormons at first. I really got to get over the Mormon hate I got going on.

On Topic:

The FCC only controls broadcast stations. You know the stations that transmit their programs over the air. Some major cities I have been in have nudity showing up right on the cable channels. Premium cable channels do not even bother to self regulate, and late night cinemax has pretty much been dubbed skinomax for as long as I can remember.

Never been in a deathmatch with British people (that I know of, I don't keep track), and I haven't played GTA.

This fine sir or madam is on to something here. Although i must disagree you can never have too much sex and tits...with violence. Or maybe thats just me, hmm.
I like violence and I don't mind sex but I can look in the mirror and see tits anytime I want. So, that totally does nothing for me. Haha~

That's not the difference, a more major difference is the articulated lorry, which we sane people of America refer to as a semi-truck or simply "semi."
Wait - why does "semi-truck" make any sense at all? It's larger than pick-up trucks, which isn't obvious under your name. Also, it's articulated. It has an articulation in the middle. What the hell doesn't make sense about the British name?
There's nothing nonsensical about the name, but it is rather cumbersome to say. Semi of course means "half" and a semi-truck is half a truck. A truck consists of two parts, a machine that propels the truck and a place to store the load. A semi has no place to store its load unless a trailer is attached to it unlike pick-up trucks or regular trucks. To be clear the assembly of a semi-truck and its trailer(s) is called a "tractor-trailer," but semi or semi-truck suffices conversationally.

It was a joke anyway.

I'm british...
We established that in the edit.
Well you should of established it in your OP, slowpoke /sarcasm

On a side note. When you say 'ITT' do you mean 'in this thread' or I think that'? Regardless neither works very well in that sentence.

I've been watching TV shows from Great Britain lately, and I must say the first time some one cussed I was a bit taken aback. It's become a rising trend in tv shows lately to let slip a few f-bombs here in the U.S. Also the whole why can't we cuss after 9pm thing is because chances are, most kids are still awake and watching tv at that time.

It usually amounts to a half hour of being called a fat American by kids who cuss every other word. It actually gets kind of creepy after awhile.
