What is it? I think I'm the only person on the internet whos never been to TvTropes.

What about you? Do you go? What do you do there? Favorite/most embarrassing experience there?

If enough people make this sound like a good thing I might check it out.

It's a catalogue of Tropes. Tricks of the trade, cliches, figures of speech, concept ideas, plot devices, all of those things.

All the time. Any new TV show, book, anime/manga, or movie, I go through on TvTropes thoroughly.

Its exactly what it sounds like, all the narritive tricks etc used in tv (and books, games etc.). And it takes seconds to check out, so why do you need people to talk it up?

Much like ED, except it focuses on plot devices rather than internet memes. It's also without everything that makes ED so very infamous.

I don't get it. Is it just a site that describes predicaments and circumstances?

I was just there, scrolling through the fetish fuel page. Men in Black 2 sounds like a good movie, particularly a certain opening scene.

Ahem.

Everyone on the internet visits TvTropes at some point. Only about 10% return.
The rest never leave!

That site is dangerous, it will consume your life :D

You're asking pretty dumb questions.

Our favorite/most embarrassing experience there? It's not a forum, it's a wiki.

TVtropes was good for a while - but it's spiralling out of control. Duplicated tropes, tropes that don't fit, spontaneous fan-boy defences and ludicrous rationalizations in the middle of the pages..... they need someone to go in and clean it up. Yes I like the fact that it is informal, but you get people who try to shoe-horn their favourite series into every single page, regardless of its suitability.

When it was just cynics and sarcastic commentators contributing, it was fine. Then the fans got involved.

There are no dumb questions. Only dumb answers.

Oh, wait, no. Those are dumb questions.

I do find it odd how some series appear on almost every page, especially when I've never even heard of the show in question. Then again, the list of 'most linked' are all pretty big names, IIRC.

All in all, a very enjoyable website to spend some time on. Surprisingly educational too, if you're into trivia.

I've been there.

Then I left after a few minutes because I wasn't all that impressed.

It's not all that interesting to me. I do go back every now and then when I want to check out something specific, but I rarely stay longer than 15 minutes.

It's a very fun, addictive wiki about media and the devices used in them. Just last night a friend of mine was looking through the Spongebob page.

Oh, and it's how I became our resident Nanoha fanboy.

I don't like that site due to the fact that you have to read 7 different articles to figure out what the article you started reading was about.

Just like a real wiki!

On topic: this thread is confusing. Just go to the website itself, look through a few of the categories, perhaps the pages of works you enjoy, see if it is something for you. Personally I'd start at the Acceptable Breaks From Reality page, as it covers a lot of things (mainly in video games) that make no sense but are there anyway for entertainment purposes, which is what a lot of the site is about.
