Twitter? what do you use it for?

Hi there fellow Escapists!

So, I just decided to start actively using my twitter account. I used to just monitor it occasionally in the event of a MarbleHornets update. So then I decided to add some of the G4TV people and don't know who else to follow, or why I am following them. All I know is that for some reason I like to update. I like to see other peoples updates, and once you start you kind of can't stop.

Discussion time. Do any of my fellow escapists use twitter? Do you actively update? Are you perplexed by the fact that it is basically a facebook status with a limit? Hashtag?

I use it to get news from people I want news from, as well as to inform my (now 7) followers of what I'm doing, if I get around to it; these situations are rare.

I use it to chronicle when I'm going to the bathroom.

As an ironic statement! I swear!

I use it to follow a few webcomicists or bands or whatnot. I don't tweet or anything, I only have 1 follower, a friend from college.

I use it to get tweets from Kevin Butler and Yahtzee. Very funny stuff.

I consider twitter to be largely for twits.

I use it mainly to get updates on certain celebrities who I'm interested in. Good ones, like music people I like (so definitely NOT Kanye, but certainly Florence Welch and Klaxons and so on). I also follow some of the Escapist staff and contributors and most of the LRR crew...

Anyway, I tend to just tweet random things myself. Though because a couple of my friends, and my brother, are also on it I sometimes have entire conversations over Twitter with them. Like tonight, tweeting to my brother back-and-forth about the stupid decision the UK government made today regarding higher education...

I've heard so much about Twatter, I mean Twitter, and yet I still don't understand it.

I don't really care for it. Basically it feels like I'm privy to only parts of a conversation that generally involve people I don't actually know. I have never been enlightened by a tweet and only rarely amused.

Personally, I don't understand why it has become so popular.
