I've never really been on Twitter. The only person (band) I've ever followed is Muse, and that was once or twice that I checked it. The thing is, I don't really GET it. What is the point? Isn't Twitter just like your status updates on Facebook? Do people actually read those? Is it worth it? Is it a totally overrated and dumb idea?

Conan O'Brien's Twitter is comedy gold. It's his way of giving people comedy since he was banned from being on TV. That's the only twitter I follow.

I agree with you.

I made an account, just to see what all the fuss was about... and immediately forgot about it.

While a lot of people do seem to enjoy it, and, admittedly, it has had a huge impact on many of today's political events (the Iranian riots over the elections comes to mind... a lot of people posted information via Twitter because the government was trying to censor info, if I remember correctly...), but personally, I don't really understand why its such a phenomenon.

I like knowing what other people are doing in their life. I've only recently began actually tweeting at a decent rate, and I only have 3 followers, so I don't really have much reason to.

I've got a Twitter account. Mostly I use it as a very slow instant messaging service -- I pretty much only follow my friends.

The other thing that Twitter is great for is spreading information very quickly to wide groups of people. I don't know if you followed what happened with the Iranian election last summer, but there was a ton of information both from people in the country and from various groups trying to support them. Seems pretty self-involved, which I suppose describes most of the internet generation pretty well. I don't see how they're ever going to make money though...it's not like Facebook where they can add content, pretty much it is what it is. I hope that means it will go away soon enough.

The concept does seem pretty inane and stupid, I'll admit. And it is.
But it is oddly addicting, if you have a bunch of friends on it.
Not sure how it works, really. I guess you kinda get used to just saying whatever shit is on your mind.

I very rarely use my Twitter account for status updates. It's an oddly addicting way to keep in touch with everyone. Not everyone I'm friends with has a Skype account or an MSN account, and for them, I use Twitter.

I'm not totally opposed to the idea and function of Twitter, but I just never got the hang of using it. Call me retarded if you must, but the interface seems very un-intuitive and not user-friendly - I never knew if I was using it correctly and if anyone could actually see my "tweets" or whatever.

I'm one of the people that doesn't use it. I don't use any of the social networking sites, and I just wouldn't ever have anything interesting to tell people every 5 minutes on twitter. I really don't even know anyone I'd be interesting in getting an up to the minute update on either.

Thanks for the link. Twitter certainly seems to make lashing out against things you don't like easier, or rallying for things you believe in. It just seems so expansive. I know that you cannot always trust the newspapers/news, but with Twitter, there could be SO many people Tweeting about the same thing, and you never know if what you are reading is true. But, that's the same with anything, I guess.
