It has got to be mole people, North Korea have been pretty agressive towards USA lately and they do have a lot of underground bunkers....

Yep North Korea did this and they have created mole people, we are doomed.

And suddenly stuff like Gears of War or that new Godzilla movie don't seem all that unrealistic or unlikely any more.

It sounds like the set up to a Junji Ito story.

Get out of there Stalker!
THIS IS MY HOLE! IT WAS MADE FOR ME!

*camera zooms out to reveal the speaker is really, REALLY fat*
A friend of mine recently showed me a few stories. Some of them are very chilling and pointless. (In a good way) It's rarely a case that the people deserve what happen to them. There is rarely an "Egyptian curse" element. Fucked up shit happens because we live in a strange and incomprehensible world. Kinda reminds me of this comic from Achewood: http://www.achewood.com/index.php?date=04032006

I can't guess what's forming these holes. But I imagine the "History" channel will have a field day with them.

If I was an alien who discovered that Earth was populated by a reasonably intelligent civilization, one that thought it had a pretty good grip on science and technology, I would probably do something like this, just for giggles. How much fun would it be to screw with those guys by blasting inexplicable holes in their planet? Oh, the hilarity.

Shoggoths are coming, in which case GET AN OCCULTIST YOU DAMN FOOL!
Nah nah nah... Shoggoths are generally in two areas. One, in the dead city, up the mountains of madness in Antarctica. Two, working with the Deep Ones (and therefore being subbordinate to Dagon, Hydra, and Cthulhu). Now, Cthonians might create a buncha' holes like this...

I love how these thing were seen September last year, but this is only the first we're hearing of it (As in, recently, not this specific post).

I sensing that the Silver Surfer is preparing these holes for Galactus...

Or that the Earth is a lot more hollow than we thought it was...
3 giant holes. I never knew Galactus was into bowling.

On the other hand, 3 unexplainable appearances of large quantities of nothing, I'm not too worried.

Is there a Latin term for "Big Hole in the Ground"?

Because all I'm picturing are a bunch of geologists all going:

"Now what we have here, is a big hole in the ground."

Also, how close would theese things happen to be to the Kola borehole?

I wonder when/if they solve this if the discovery will shed any new light on the Tunguska event.
Neither Tunguska nor the Cola borehole are even remotely near the reported locations of these holes. They are thousands of miles apart from those locations and each other.

The Cola borehole is located near the Norwegian border [https://maps.google.com/maps?ll=69.396219,30.608667&spn=0.05,0.05&t=m&q=69.396219,30.608667].
The Tunguska ground zero is.. um... here [https://maps.google.com/maps?ll=60.901944,101.904444&spn=0.01,0.01&t=m&q=60.901944,101.904444].
The mysterious holes were found somewhere on Yamal [https://maps.google.com/maps?ll=71,70&spn=5,5&t=m&q=71,70], Gydan [https://maps.google.com/maps?ll=70,79&spn=1,1&t=m&q=70,79] and Taimyr [https://maps.google.com/maps?ll=74,100&spn=10,10&t=m&q=74,100] peninsulae.

I suppose it's tempting to see connection between these places since they are located in one country, but Russia is HUGE. I don't think the holes are related to Cola Superdeep or Tunguska in any way.
Good job that I never implied proximity had anything to do with it then, only that if they can find new data on mysterious explosions in northern regions might provide a new perspective on exactly what happened there.
Sorry, my bad. Hope these holes help solve the mystery of the Bermuda Triangle as well.
