Before I drop $125 on getting Final Fantasy XIII-2, I'd like to know a couple of things...

Does each and every single battle take 5-10 mins to chore through like in FFXIII, or are battles against random mobs and bosses a lot faster now?

What happens if the character you're controlling dies, is it an instant game over?

I don't know about battle length (I never found xiii's battles to be to long and tedious, except maybe bosses), but I do know that it's not automatic game over if your leader dies, you just switch to the other main character.

125... whaaa, the game is $60

Anyway the battles are a lot faster now, those random minions will take less then a minute really, bosses are a bit lengthier with all the "summoning world destroyer" animations and quick time events.

Don't know about death tho(have yet to see anyone die), the game is extremely casual so I presume they wouldn't take too much away from you if it all goes wrong, heck half the time you could take a nap and still win.

My only question is just how much Lightning is there in the game?

That's the only character I care about, and I won't play the game unless she's in for at least 70% of it.
You're in for a disappointment then, cause I've heard she's a fairly minor character in this game after the opening sequence.

The game is about Serah and Noel. Lightning is in like 10% of it.

Random battles weren't more than 30 seconds to a minute in XIII and the same is true for XIII-2. I don't know about bosses, haven't fought one yet.

I have a question, why do people refer to enemies as mobs now? Even when there is but one enemy, people say mob.

Because that's what people called them in World of Warcraft?

I honestly don't know where the term came from, possibly from even older MMO's, but yeah, there you go.

As for the $125 thing, Yahtzee often brings up the fact that he has to pay nearly twice what the US pays for his games, so I'd imagine the OP is from some country other than the US.

And now for my question: why in god's name do people still play Final Fantasy games? Hi-ohhhhhhhhhh! *drum rimshot* :p

Because it has nothing to do with numbers but with them being mobile: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mob_(video_gaming)

Well it can't be any worse that the first part. Man that game sucked balls. Not in a good way.
Hahaha oh how wrong you are .

The second one has QTE's during cinematics for starters. The story is less coherent . It deals with time paradoxes ,as if it was trying to be chrono trigger , but worst . The combat is okay , there is an easy mode now. The character animations are worst ( seriously , when i saw serah runfor the first time , i laughed so hard). There so much wrong with this game , it's actually worst , square enix deserves a medal.

Edit: oh an noel is a tool, serah seems less brave that in the previous game , You don't get to play as anyone from FFXIII, it's just noel an serah + a monster. No snow, no lightning , no sahz ,no hope, no vanille ,no fang ( though vanille and fang makes sense due to FFXIII ending).

Silly me, I was thinking about the REAL definition.

There should be a demon on both the PSN and Xbox Live. Why not just try it out?

Either way: Battles do not have to last an extensively long time. I don't know what you were doing in XIII, but even there, battles didn't have to last longer than a minute. No different here.

Also, if Noel dies, it switches to Sarah. If Sarah dies, it switches to Noel. If they both die and all your left with is your animal companion, you're fucked.

1. Lightning is a DLC character that works like a Pokemon, err I mean recruited monster
2. battles are a lot faster but bosses can be pretty long unless you grind to kingdom come
3. if your main character dies you automatically switch to the other one and can use a Phoenix Down to revive him/her. But really if you have Serah as a Ravager, Noel as a Commando, and a monster as a Medic you'll get through the game fairly easily. Another good combo is to have Serah as a Medic, Noel as a Ravager, and an albino Behemoth as a Commando. If anything the battles have been dumb down WAY too much

Oh no! Why do they keep ruining FF? I loved FF until they brought in the naff combat systems and the endless corridor of linerarity.
I know right?( i edited my original posts to mention the characters) I have every FF game , and the only reason i bought FFXIII-2 is because i'm a collector of jrpgs . That being said i can't honestly say i was dissapointed , my expectations were low , because of FFX-2,but i can't in my right mind recommend it to anyone. I think they should stick to number games and stop making MMOs. I think square enix ia trying to "find" itself atm , i hope they get back on track .

Here's my two questions. Why do still make Final Fantasy games? And, Why does Final Fantasy still exists? It's called "FINAL" Fantasy they should have stop making it by now. I think they got the Legend of Zelda/Pokemon problem. Just about everyone knows what it mean about the problem.

WOW! I would expect a non gamer to say something like this but not a gamer.

So somebody has the taste and good sense to avoid a franchise that has been on the decline seadily for a decade or more, and that makes them a non-gamer?

Maybe you're not a gamer, either. Maybe you're a shameless fanboy.

No, someone who hasn't already grown tired of the "it's say FINAL" nonsense. It's old and overused. Fanboy or gamer, I'm both actually, feel better?

BTW, if you were really avoiding the franchise, you wouldn't be in this thread.

Cripes if you thought XIII's battles were long, I fear what you would think of the battles in the older games. Or other JRPGs for that matter.

There are boss encounters that are meant to last 45+ minutes in some games.

Perhaps this is true for you americans, however prices all over the world are different. For example I know Australians and us Swedes have to pay 100-130 US dollars to buy a newly released game.

For example, the Crystal edition that I bought is 999 sek, which converted is about $150.
Well I don't know how you Swedes run this business but I know Australians are being ass fucked on the simple premiss of "because we can".

In any case ebay is your bestest friend, then again if you drop $150 just like that I'm guessing income and consequently taxes are really damn high.
