You know it's funny, I saw this thread and thought "oh... yes, Ellen Page" immediately before I even clicked the link and read the OP. She's the most typecast, overrated actress working today, for sure. She's obviously just playing herself in all those different roles, it would be good to see her actually act one day.ellimist337 said:Which actors and actresses, past or present, do you think have been typecast? Maybe you can't envision them in any other role after you see them in one particular role, or maybe they've been funneled into one mold of character.
For me, for instance, I think Ellen Paige
I think most actors are typecast in one way or another though. The Timothy Spall type guy who actually gets to do all sorts of crap is the exception rather than the rule. It's very hard for someone in the industry to escape typecasting, as when they establish that they can do a certain type of role well, other film makers see that and go "I'd like some of that in my film too". The actor is then faced with a choice - do more roles that are the same, or hold out and hope that something different gets put on the table, which may or may not happen, and in the meantime refuse work that is going to pay the bills. It's a tough call for a developing actor, so in the end more actors are typecast than not.
