Types of Pokemon you never/rarely use on your team

So pretty much what type of Pokemon do you never or rarely use on your team. Quite frankly, I never seem to use any Ice, Grass, Dark, Poison, Bug, Normal(only as HM Slave), Ghost or Psychic on any of my teams when playing through the game. It maybe because of the lack of anyone that catches my eye. Hell if it were for the fact that Grass is one of the main starters, I would probably never used a grass type ever.

As for my most used types for me, it is usually Fire, Water, Electric, Flying, Rock, Steel, Fighting, Dragon, and Ground. Most of the time they are usually Dual-typed with each other. The dragon types I usually used have been the pseudo-legendaries, with the exception of Generation 3 where I used both Flygon and Salamence on my team. My Fire types tend to be the starter, but even during playthroughs without them, I usually pick up a fire type(i.e. Magmar, Ponyta, and even Torkoal). I always pickup a flying type, no matter what. Same goes with Water and Electric. As for Ground, it usually a secondary typing, but no one that is not unwelcome.

A typical team for me consists of:
Starter(usually the fire or water type)

Fire Type if not starter (mostly if I know I need one for gym battles)

Flying Type(i.e. Crobat and Staraptor)

Water Type if not starter (i.e. Gyarados, Floatzel, Vaporeon, Lapras)

Eeveelution (usually Vaporeon or Jolteon, depending on what my team is lacking in type coverage)

Electric Type (Raichu, Ampharos, Luxray, Jolteon)

Fighting Type (usually secondary type to starter but I have picked up Machamp and Primeape)

Pseudo Legendary (always picked up the Pseudo Legendary on all my games. They really help out during the Elite Four run. If i didn't have my Garchomp in DPPt, I would probably never have beaten Cynthia.)

Also I would add a poll, but not enough options

I find the Dark types don't have a spot on my team. As for what I use the most, I like to have at least one of every element(water, fire, leaf) a flying type, a fighting type and a ghost/ psychic type.

Its just the way my teams always are.

If it wasn't for Tyranitar, I probably would have never had a Dark Type on my team.

I've used nearly ever type so far except for Rock, normal and Bug.

It's not that I don't like the types, I'm willing to use any Pokemon, it's just that they never ended up in my team.

I tend to use Water, Electric, Grass and Dark types but I have included other types as well.

Also I always have the moves to cover their weakness as best as possible, or maybe the odd unique on to throw the opponent off. Such as Pidgeot knowing Heatwave in Heartgold.

The only ones I tend to actively avoid would be Normal types. They are all just so...boring.

Ice, Electric, Psychic, Dragon and Fire just tend to never really make it, but I wouldn't mind using them at all. I tend to end up with a lot of Steel, Rock, Ground, Poison and Bug.

I take it that you are a fan of Sandstorm teams?

Bug and Dark, I've never really seen any benefits in having them outside of filling my Pokedex

I never had Dragon for a long time simply cause I couldnt find any! But I did have Giratina and Flygon during my playthroughs of Platinum and Emerald.

Never Bug. Ever. Final evoltions are almost always at like level 10. I noticed Gen 5 though trying to toughen up the bugs. I never seem to have Ice, dont know why. I really want one if I play through again. Dark only if it happens to be joint with something else I have.

Psychic and Ghost are rare too.

My typical team would be;

Fire
Water
Grass (sometimes joined with poison)
Electric
Flying
Ground/Rock/Something else

Usually at least one of the above would be joint with Steel or Fighting.

The team I usually aim for consist of a fire/water/grass depending on my starter, electric, flying, psychic and ground. For some reason I always leave a spare slot for just any random Pokemon that might come in useful, maybe fighting or steel.

Im gonna say what everyones thinking, Bug types, what are they good for? Also Normal types usually, but lately I've been trying to include one in my teams. Generally i go with

Flying (For flight)
Fire {Favourite of the starter 3 elements)
Water (For surf, another useful HM)
Psychic (Because they seem to be useful beyond belief)
Electric (Because hey electricity)
Fighting (Because the only true man pokemon are the ones that will beat your ass)

That tends to be my usual lineup, with some exceptions. Also I might keep around an HM whore to swap in occasionally e.g. I catch a Meowth and make it use flash just so i can get through the rock cave, then its never seen again

It does tend to depend on the generation. I never have a bug type for long, but it can be a good initial team member. Butterfree has confusion and sleep powder. It's quite powerful, and good for catching pokemon. Until I find a psychic anyway, then Butterfree can fuck off. Ice never seems to make it into my team, I think because they're always found quite late in the game, when my team is already nice and balanced. Fighting is rare too, only time I can think of it is when I catch a Mankey in first gen. I really should pick up a ghost type next time I feel the urge to play some Pokemon, thinking of it now I never seem to have a ghost, which is strange considering how awesome they are.

As for what types I usually have in my team.
Steel is a good one, usually I'll get a Magnemite for the steel/electric combo. Water and flying are essential for the HM's, annoyingly enough. Fire pokemon are just awesome, I'll usually have one. Psychic are good. A ground or rock type is good, Rhydon or Onix or something awesome.

EDIT: Oh yeah. Poison and normal are rather rare too. Poison especially, normal might occasionally be a dual type or an HM slave.

I tend to only use the starter Pokémon (usually fire type), one flying type for using Fly. One water type for using Surf, and one Normal type for using Strength etc.

Everything else in my line up is whatever I caught most recently.

I tend to avoid Fire, Psychic, and Dragon. Half because of how late they usually pop up, and half because they usually need more training than others.

Most often, I'll take Normal, Flying, and Poison. Which is weird, because they're the most likely to be shunned, apparently.

Also, I rarely use the Starter. I'll use it until my first "real" capture, then abandon it forever in virtual hell. That's if I don't trade or release it, of course.

I often ignore psychic and fighting types. Most of the time it's fairly hard to find a fighting/ psychic type pokemon early enough in the game to make him a dependable permanent fixture in my team. I mostly stick with my fire starter, at least one electric type, an eeveelution or two, and a couple of pokemon I have trained since level 3 (these are more than likely Geodude and Sentret).

I rarely use Bug types, at least not since the very first generation on Pokemon Yellow, using Butterfree to beat Brock. Oh, and Poison as well.

I try to take advantage of dual types in order to get to get as many different types and move types as I can in my party. The only type that can be hard to integrate is dragon due to rarity.

I prefer the hybrid type pokemon so I can cover more ground.

Poison/Ground.
Flying/*fire/water/electricity etc.
Water/Grass is an interesting one.
Rock/Steel too.

The only non hybrid one I'm really into is Fighting, I generally always have a Machoke in my party. (I don't like machamp as much)

On topic however, I rarely use Dark type pokemon. I don't really see any appeal in them.

Typically it seems like a grass type is not represented in most of my teams unless it's a starter, which until the current generation it wasn't. I'll agree on bugs with the exception, again, of this generation, as I've had a Galvantula and nowadays my usual Volcarona. Otherwise I rarely see normal-types, although that's a shame since I think they tend to be good 'filler'. they tend to have rounded stats where nothing is low but nothing is high either. good for when you're looking for that last team-member but you can't find the perfect one just yet but don't wanna leave your squad one member short.
