Types of Pokemon you never/rarely use on your team

The way my teams are set up, there aren't really any types that I neglect. This is how my teams are set up in just about every game

1 - Water or Ice
2 - Fire or Dragon
3 - Grass, Ground or Rock
4 - Flying
5 - Dark, Psychic or Fighting
6 - Electric or Steel

Assuming you know your Pokemon types (and I assume you all do) the only ones that get left out of this list are Normal, Bug, Poison and Ghost (but that doesn't mean I don't have quite a few of those types mixed in with the ones above)

However, I use those four types when playing the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games.

So basically in all my games, I use a pretty fair amount of all Pokemon types.

Everything that dies to Stealth Rocks, 'cause you know, if you play standard there'll be those damn rocks EVERYWHERE.
Basically i don't play stuff, that is weak against alot of the current used attacks.
Sure you'll balance your team out to have switch-ins to soak up the damage, but still.

I'd say flying und bug types probably. Because outside of Heracross most bug's aren't worth it in OU and fliers.. meh. Low stats, mediocre attacks and a often horrible combos and flyin' alone just save you from EQ.

@Darkryter
Poision is not that unused. Gegnar and Tentcruel are poison types and they're OU pokemons.

And if we're talkin out side of PvP just the normal game: I use my starter.
That's all you need to clear every pokemon game i've ever played :)Play with the starter, catch the Plot-Legendary + one legendary with your masterball and rofl-stomp the Top4 with 3 pokemons ~10-20lvls higher then theirs.

If you want to overkill the NPCs backed them up with a Chansey/Blissey. Though Chansey + Evolit means you're basically immune to the S.Atks of the NPCs^^

PS: I just read Azaradel's post
Of course Ice. It's probably the worst type out of all types.
Fighting + Fire are probably one of the most used attacks (To fight Ferrothorn e.g) and takes a supereffective from stealth rocks.

That's why Arcticuno, even though he's a legendary bird, fights in the Underused bracket. Takin' 50% Hp dmg on entrance is just lulz.
I am actually talking about playing the game itself and not competitive play. However I do agree with you on Stealth Rock screwing over the OU. Sometimes I wish the come out with another entry hazard just the balance crap out.

I rarely use Bug, and almost never use Fighting, Rock or Ground. I like to stick with Fire, Grass, Water, Electric, Psychic, and a slot that could be something like Flying or Dragon. Cover all the bases. Sometimes, I pick up a hybrid, like Water/Flying (I'm looking at you, Pelliper!) that can pull double duty while also acting as an HM slave.

Protip: If you're a patient individual, pick up a Dratini in HG/SS by playing Voltorb Flip. It starts off weak, but God have mercy on your foes if you raise it into a Dragonite. Alternatively, wait until you have all 8 badges and hunt for one in the Dragon's Den, but by then, you would have passed up some valuable training time.

I did that. I loathed myself afterwards, because it's just not worth it at all. NOTHING in the world is worth playing hours of Voltorb Flip. Fuck that game!! Sorry, I just really had to vent.

OT: Most often it's Rock, Dark, Bug and Poison. When I encounter something that's weak to them, I'm either absurdly strong and kill(I know they don't die, shut up) the opponent in one shot or have something else that they're weak to. Favorite's include types that have immunities, like Flying, Ground and Steel. Also Water, because I feel like Pokemon of that type are among the most useful in the game.

I haven't used a bug type since Blue.

Never used an ice Pokémon.

Avoid Normal type except for an HM slave.

I think I've used all of the others, at least a little in normal circumstances. Not always found of them, but used enough for various reasons.

I generally use alot of flying pokemon it's usually a secondary type like on Gyrados, at least until I reach the Elite 4 then I get it a bit more well balanced. My usual team that I try to build for is Charizard, Gyrados, Lapras/Tentacruel, Weavile/Dodrio, Dragonite, Tyranitar/Dragonite (sometimes I'll use 2 Dragonites). Also Dodrio pre Gen IV with tri-attack will destroy everything (except ghosts) my pre elite 4 is almost always: Charizard, Gyrados, Lapras/Tentacruel, Dodrio, Dragonite, Dragonite/Pidgeot/Zapdos. (I always teach my Lapras Psychic)

But yea that's not what this thread is about...

So OT rock/ground/steel/bug/grass/fight/electric Lucario is only steel type I've ever used, I usually get a fighting type but I don't normally like them enough to use them throughout. Electric I'm usually iffy about some games I'll use em like if I can get Luxray or Zapdos or Jolteon but otherwise I don't care much. Like in Red/Blue I'll usually grab a pikachu early just to take out Misty but after that he just sits in storage

All of my teams have had a flying and a water type due to surf and fly. It really annoys me that pretty much two slots have to get taken up by those unless you research ahead for other pokes that can learn them.

I don't use ground/steel/poison types much except as secondary. Never really used ice either, but there are a lot of ice pokemon that I like.

I almost always have an electric type. Water and flying are so common in the games, and they're usually speedy enough to get through big areas without taking a hit.

Fighting, Poison, Dark, Ice, Bug, and Rock (if it isn't a hybrid type).

Most of those types are niche types, that are only good against so few types of Pokemon.

EDIT: And Normal, because they have no special abilities except being able to learn a bunch of TM/HMs and being damage sponges.

I tend not to have normal, bug, poison, and rarer types like steel and dark and such on my teams. Either don't see any, or just don't think they are worth training. In white version, I did and still do have a scolipede on my team, because scolipedes are bad-ass looking.
I tend to definitely have fire grass water on my team no matter what and I always try to have a flying type pokemon on my team (particularly bird type pokemon with 3 stages of evolution such as pidgeot. i dunno, they're just awesome.). I try for a dragon type if possible, and the last slot is a variable. Anything goes.

Personally I run a stall team with walls and disruptors and abuse secondary damage over time. So the types of pokemon I often don't use are sweepers because of how fragile they are. As for type I generally ignore poison types as they don't have a lot of strengths. Almost any pokemon can learn toxic so they don't even have that niche. Though sometimes I use gengar as a spin blocker t spikes absorber combo

It seems like the types that everyone else despises are the ones I use the most - Bug, Dark, Fighting... Especially Fighting. 5th Gen brought way too many awesome fighting-type pokes to ignore them.
As for bug, Scyther is still one of my favorite pokemon, especially now that he can run a pretty good bulky set with Eviolite.
And Dark... you can't say Absol isn't an awesome pokemon. Sure, he could use a bit more speed and a slightly wider movepool, but he gets Megahorn, Sucker Punch, Psycho Cut, Superpower... Lots of stuff to cover pretty much everything. That plus a phenomenal attack stat made him one of my standbys in the Kanto side of Soul Silver.
