Oh aren't us men all crazy. The funny thing is if there was anything like this, but for women, I'm sure it would be classed as sexist.
I'm pretty sure if us men saw that our other half spent all there time playing video games we'd try to help them out of it but if it didn't work after a certain point we'd leave them. It's just because we're logical like that, if she's more interested in video games after you trying to do something about it, then she's not fucking worth it.

if she has a problem she needs to leave him, not go on this show. she seems to hold on to the idea of having to marry her highschool sweetheart too much.

i once a saw a mental oestrogen fuelled daytime TV show
i dont miss that day

otherwise this isnt as bad as folk are thinking. apart from it being massively condecending. and it doesnt even "decode" gamers. it just says "if you do this you, you are this". which i thought was a touch predjudicial if im honest

They should have sent Adam. He tends to talk circles around these people. Plus it there would not be nearly as much pandering to lonely women.

I dunno when this was aired, but really why are they bringing up 1997 games. What are his girlfriends other options, watch tv, sit on your ass and just watch a screen. Second what the holy hell was with that over analyzed bullshit. I play all those games and utterly disagree with damn near everything she said.

Besides what is he supposed to do he's got the only penis in the entire room barring the production staff.Who is sitting at home fantasizing that running Madden seasons, are bringing home millions. I mean when the woman wants to have sex the bro probably spikes his controller and goes to it, but I think her problem is she has nothing to offer him as far as entertainment other than sex and she is mad at him for it.

Maybe don't date out of your favorite interest's group. I mean if your girlfriend is so boring that all you want to do outside of sex is ignore her and play video games, maybe date someone who you have more in common with, unless you just don't care anyway.

When did E! have anything to say about G4? Also no, Morgan DOES NOT look like she wants to be there. Or at least she doesnt want to talk about Video Games like they're bad. I like how she makes a case for the guys.

Also, I like the double standard that men always need to be broken down. How about the women shuts the hell up and stops bitching about what makes the man happy even through it doesnt HER happy. I'm sure if they guy tried to say that he didnt like something she did, that entire audience would have turned against him (or really anyone) and his GF would punish him later for it.

Look I know games sometimes get a bad rap in the media. But holy crap gamers hypersensitive much? Seriously getting all nerdragey the moment a bit of justifiable negative light is shed on our hobby is only enforcing the stereotype.

I would have slapped that whore of a girlfriend, called Tyra a jaded ***** and left.

If your girlfriend forces you to choose between your favorite hobby or her, she isn't the right girl.
Right how dare she ask for you to spend some time with her. How dare she ask for a little attention to tend to her needs? Or did you completely miss the part where everyone agreed that it is fine he plays games. But maybe he should step away from the controller once in a while? That maybe it isn't all that healthy to neglect real life because I R GAMER derp.

Reading some of these responses makes me glad I am not a gamer. I am just a person who plays games quite regularly. Keeps himself updated on the gaming news. And has a general love of video games that he has carried with him since the days of Coleco. Being called a gamer I now take as a personal insult. And the media has nothing to do with that.

Edit
Now do not get me wrong I don't think everyone who loves games are "GAMERS" just like I don't think all Liberals are like the Tea Party or all Christians are like the Desboro church. I am just sick and tired of "GAMERS" giving gamers, games and the industry a bad rap by constantly reinforcing the stereotype they are nerdraging against. And I believe the only way we are ever going to start making any headway is to disassociate ourselves from "GAMERS" and their tactics.

Fight smart or don't fight at all.

Well that could have been much more disastrous. I expected a lot worse, actually. It's obvious that Tyra herself is entirely ignorant on the subject (criticizing him for playing video games because he's not 13? Seriously?), and Webb's categories were more than a little flawed (overlapping with each other and entirely ignoring the competitive nature of some games), but at least it didn't end up taking as negative a stance as it could have. Seriously though Tyra, get a life.

I also feel overwhelming relief at the fact that my girlfriend loves video games.

I'm not goin to watch it... but did she get all, "psychological"?
That's pretty much the only real contentious part of the clip. Other than that it was "maybe spend more time with your girlfriend", at no point was she "bashing video games" like the OP suggests.
From someone who has a GIF of Tyra as their Avatar, I find it hard to take your post seriously.. As it's likely biased.

As a person who doesn't really give two shits about Tyra and the things she does, I can say that she bashes games, degrading them, calling them only a suitable thing for children.

Not to mention that guy's girlfriend looked and sounded like a dumb *****, but that's just me.

What I want to know is: does this woman do stupid, waste of time things like buying clothes, shoes, make-up, hair, or--oh wait, I'm sorry, I forgot, wasting time and money on THOSE things is okay.

One of my favorite arguments against games is "all that time wasted could be better spent elsewhere!"

Like where? On a job? I have a job. On friends? My friends play games with me. On hobbies? Gaming is a hobby. On charity? I give to charity, I still have plenty left for games. On a girl?

Seems to me the only problem here is someone who thinks that they are in a place to criticize someone's life.

Someone like Tara, in the FASHION industry of all things, really has no place judging people based on obsessing over useless things.
You took the words right out of my mouth.

Also what was that gamer psychoanalysis? Damn that was stupid and shallow.

But you would be horribly horribly wrong. I don't particularly care for Tyra as a social commentator, I just think she has some hilarious over-the-top moments.

So yeah, it's for serious.

I was checking Morgan Webb's wiki page for a psychology degree; I didn't find one. I'm pretty sure she made some general points about gamers that sounded somewhat coherent and then when she was actually on the show just listed off a pre-planned outline of what a gamer is, using no facts or evidence. Oh well, it's the Tyra Banks show, it's not like anyone related to that will understand playing video games.

I'm gonna QFT this. GAMING. IS. NOT. PERFECT. And the longer we, as gamers, fail to realize this, the harder it will be for people to take us seriously. Yes, most gamers out there know some self-control and can put down the controller whenever we want to. But that doesn't give us, who can do that, an excuse to blindly defend those who have lost that self-control and encourage them to continue a self-destructive habit. Just because YOU don't have a problem, doesn't mean it's impossible for it to be a problem. And I understand how the media can be misleading about games, gamers and gamer culture, and worry so much about problem gaming compared to other forms of media, but there is one bit of justification for that, that doesn't exist in other media: some games are designed to try to keep you playing for perhaps unhealthy lengths of time, if you don't have the willpower to step away from the computer or console. Perhaps we need a reminder of this:

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/extra-credits/2487-The-Skinner-Box

And yeah, Webb really did do a good job of trying to defend the games guys play, and didn't just go lockstep with what Tyra really seemed to want her to say. Tyra seemed to have to stretch to try to spin what Webb was saying in her favor. But the point is, we really don't know how much this guy was really playing, and how little time he was spending with his girlfriend. Perhaps he really was spending ALL his free time outside work playing games to the point of shutting himself into his place, and didn't realize how much it was affecting others. This guy is 23, he is old enough to make his own decisions, sure. But if he has been with this woman since high school, and they were really considering getting really serious with their relationship or even perhaps getting married, sacrifices have to be made. And something that important can't be just written off just because, as the quoted post put it, "I R GAMER derp". And if we are seriously suggesting that that guy should just toss aside his girlfriend of at least 5 years to simply play more games, I think we might have to look more closely at the things we advocate for the sake of games. Sometimes, games DO cause problems, and we can't just blindly ignore them for the sake of defending the "gamer" title.

Here's another good Extra Credits on it:

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/extra-credits/2005-Gamer

So, as a friend of mine put it, "I firmly believe in calming the f**k down." All this knee-jerk reaction isn't helping the cause of bringing games into the mainstream. We've got to accept the fact that there is the bad that goes with the good of gaming, as there is with all media. Further denial of this will only set games back even further from growing into general acceptance as a good thing.

E! own G4. I know, it is sad. But, yeah I don't think she wanted to be there either. G4 probably threatend to not renew her contract, like Olivia Munn. Now she has to do everything they say.
