Thank you for posting that image, I found it hilarious. You have no idea how much it pisses me off when people use "then" instead of "than". You know what else? There's a trend to write "women" when you're only talking about one woman. The whole "your" thing is probably the most out of hand, though. It's not just the occasional error, it's EVERY FUCKING TIME! Blah, that is the reason that I like this site - because 99% of you don't hurt my eyes when you type. Thanks guys, and I mean that sincerely.

My wife and I actually had a conversation about this the other day, in regards to our unborn daughter. If she ends up using this kinds of language in everyday situations, I will be extremely upset, and possibly disown her :p.

I hate when people use this type of language, because it just makes our entire generation look illiterate.

I always wondered what would happen if Samuel L. Jackson taught an English course. "English, ************, do you speak it 101"

I give a pass to people using an old school cell phone to text, ones where you have to hit a number repeatedly to get to the letter you want, or some kind of character limit. There is no excuse if they have a keyboard and no letter limit.

"A" is a word. It gotta be, to some extent, at least. And it's a single letter...

Although as a Grammar Nazi, I do agree that it's bloody fucking annoying when people choose to use "u" instead of "you" when they're using full fledged keyboards. I could, to some extent, understand and tolerate it when it's used on cellphone messages - if you're in such a rush, although I can't imagine why you'd spend your time trying to send anyone a message, it's understandable why you might want to not bother with your average awful cellphone keyboard.

When sitting in front of your desktop or laptop, it's simply unacceptable.

"lol" is actually an advancement in communication, as far as I can tell. Why? Because "lol" or "laugh out loud" conveys a specific meaning, one that's hard to confuse with anything else. You get a feeling when you read those three letters...granted, if they're used improperly (just like any other sentence utilizing poor diction) it will rub the wrong way; just think about how "lol" or "haha" would sound if you put it after the sentence "My Grandma just passed away".

Honestly, I think that run on sentences are far worse than txt-msg-language. When people can say a whole lot of nothing and then still have to add more (ie. blah, blah, blah...you know, like...I mean, ...) then maybe lol, haha, or any other short form isn't so bad.

As an MMO player, I still hate it when people use retarded shorthand, Acronyms are fine, but seeing it ever other 'word' is irritating as all hell.

Sure, it takes less time to type it, but it takes most people longer to read it then a correctly typed sentence because it takes them a few seconds to translate it into English from the MMO-native 'retardish'.

Seriously, Can you believe I died to a monster because someone was too lazy to type 'look out, monster behind you'?
'lok out bihnd u' I mean really...

If people wish to game with me and say 'u' because its easier then 'you', I say 'no' because its easier then 'yes' =3

(I know I can be an elitist prick ^.^)

I can't figure out how someone could get so worked up over grammar. Grammar has changed so much throughout time. Phrases come and go, get over it.

I'm fine with U, R and Y. It's a clever little piece of manipulating (the fact that the pronounciation of 'R' is identical to that of 'are')

HOWEVER

That Apostraphe problem in your picture is called the Grocer's Apostraphe because in the old days when shops had hand-painted signs, the Grocer didn't know if his shop was "The Grocers" as in "The Butchers" or if it was a shop that belonged to him, as in "The Grocer's" (shop).

I. HATE. THAT. MISTAKE.

The worst people who do that are the teenaged girls who add extra consonants to words, making them longer.
e.g. I once had a contact on MSN whos name was something like 'name I can't remember' annnd 'other name I can't remember' Bezzie Mayyts foorr everrrr! I hated seeing that.
