The hilarious thing is, their anger is getting them nowhere. People still bought the game in the millions, and the people complaining have no interest in that kind of thing anyway. Basically haters, IW screwed you over. You are wasting your breath.

Their hating on it will only serve to raise sales, because negative publicity has a way of backfiring on the whiners.

If you can't detach yourself mentally (when you need to) from what you are playing, you don't deserve to play video games. That airport scene is just a scenario from a video game, nothing more.

Why do they always need to mix politics into everything? Get over yourself, religious leaders, stop harassing video games and get back to religious leading or whatever.

no one is getting the point..

a jewish rabbi plays MW2!!!

holy shit!
also, are there non-jewish rabbis?
Hm, debatable. You could have a Rabbi who teaches Judaism but secretly is not a practising Jew, thus possibly making him a non-Jewish Rabbi by definition.

However I don't think those are terribly common, or at least, not publicised.

To their defense, they are talking about young people not just Children

SO for you parents out there, if you buy this and you know you have young kids in the house that will probably play this when you aren't home, BE FORE WARNED. Do not ***** about it because you aren't bright enough to censor your own kids.

dude, i have to say... that is awesome. I hated the idea of CoD modern warfare 2 because i disliked the first one. but now it's got more opposition and thats a part of the game, i am actually considering buying it now. Don't let a tiny little detail annoy you, it's still a really useful piece if information in the debate between the religious leaders and the game industry.

._. the Rabbi also plays WoW ... now that's something I wasn't expecting.. why would a jewish Rabbi agree to the slaughtering of other people online and then feel sad when he plays CoD.... i'd feel sad if i played WoW tbh XD

Fazan Mohammed had this to add:

"You can't equate it with watching TV or a movie or reading a book. This is a much more intimate experience. You're mentally playing out the effects of violence. A lot of people make the excuse that this is sport - that it's just entertainment. But Joseph Goebbels - the propaganda minister of Nazi Germany - said his entertainment did more for the German people, in terms of creating the psyche for war and hostility towards others, than the speeches of Adolf Hitler. The idea this is entertainment is not justification whatsoever."
He invoked Godwin's Law people. You all saw it. Seriously... This is just silly.

I think The Heavy says it best:

"Cry some more!"

Seriously, I've seen more disturbing scenes in a Saw movie than in MW2, though there is a part involving a cigar and some gasoline that's kinda disturbing, actually.

Doesn't the bible preach violence? And don't they allow children to read the bible?

Hypocrits, I can't take word from people who spend all their life preaching and trying to please a non-existant god.

I don't see why religion is so quick to condemn it, throughout history there have been many issues where pious fanatics murdered millions of civilians for the 'greater good'. And do people not realise that when you play, you're doubtless killing somebody's son? They don't, and why? Because they aren't people, they are programmed pixels. So why does it make it worse that said pixel has been scripted to be unarmed and non-hostile?

Here we go again.... jeezeeeeeee :p

Politicians and religious leaders are all so one sided.

This guy nails it on the head, namely James Binns

"You need to see it in the same way you'd see a movie, TV show or book. There are movies, books and TV shows for kids, and there are those for adults. This is an adult piece of entertainment. We can make all entertainment for children, or we can take proper steps to try and protect children from adult entertainment."

For fuck sake, would you PLEASE MENTION there are STORY SPOILERS involved?!?!?! Other articles on this site, that reveal nothing about the game, were at least so kind. It's the ones that DON'T have it that seem to have something relevant. And honestly, I don't care how soon into the game it is, or how insignificant, for those of us that want it to be FRESH, it's a pretty big disappointment with the writing staff.
Donnie Darko dies, Saren is a traitor, Big Smoke and Ryder are working with a rival gang, N.I.C.O.L.E I.S. D.E.A.D, B company gets the gold, and Atlas is the badguy.

QQ more. Don't read a thread about a game you haven't played yet if you're so worried what big spoilers happen in the THIRD MISSION OF THE GAME. Oh, ignore the fact it clearly shows it in the freaking REVEAL TRAILERS. Moron.

I'm all for people finding a sense of place, a sense of morality and a sense of community in religion but, PLEASE, leave the gaming community alone! What would you prefer;

1. People peacefully enjoying an engrossing videogaming experience in the comfort and safety of their own home?

2. People getting drunk, spending all their money and causing trouble on a bar street on a friday night? (Costing millions in policing costs).

Or

3. People joining the army to kill 'foreigners' on behalf of their sick, greedy governments and coming home to a 'heros' welcome to somehow justify their worth?

Come on, everyone knows that violence is attractive and exciting - it's a law of nature. Why not accept that certain forms of 'violence' can be contained within the confines of the protagonists mind (ie. videogames) and be content that it isn't causing any 'real' damage to society?
