Probably social gamers falling off with the decline of Zynga and the Wii's twilight years. Nothing to do with the loyal core gamer demographic.

In with some anecdotal evidence, I met a woman this weekend who said I shouldn't let my daughter play videogames because she would grow up to wear black fingernail polish and piercings. I couldn't believe the blatant stereotyping still existed. I walked away from the woman shaking my head.

Well maybe if we'd put down the controllers and procreate...I'm kidding! I'm kidding! I know it's a bad joke, but I couldn't avoid a big, juicy fastball right over the plate like that.

In reality, maybe the US gamer population going down a bit is a good thing, it'll make publishers stop marketing to just the US market and instead go for global appeal.

Right, I mean, what's wrong with black finger nail polish and piercings? ;)

Software sales for core games have been down 28% from last year in certain months. I'd say its safe to assume that the core demographic is down a bit.

Ok, I concede that. It's troubling to hear. Are people just not buying or are people packing up gaming altogether?

It's a bit of both in my own opinion. I know people that used to play games a lot but nothing interests them like they used too. Many games borrow similar aspects you would be forgiven for mistaken many games for another similar game.

The level of bullcrap people have to put up with now is also growing. Before you just had to buy a game and enjoy it. Now you have these overwhelming options of Day one DLC, online pass codes, season passes, exclusive hardened edition, care package edition (using BO2 for that part), regular edition, 4 pre-order bonuses that are exclusive to each store, and online services (xbox live, PS+).

Gaming used to be simple fun but now its bloated with so much crap it turns people off. Also when gaming was booming it was considered to be a cheaper alternative entertainment (to my knowledge) but now its as pricy as any other hobby.
