If you're interested, here [http://www.tweakguides.com/Piracy_1.html] is something to provide even more food for thought. It is a pretty good overview of piracy, maybe not entirely accurate but still a nice read.Wayneguard said:DoPo said:snipDrOswald said:snipThanks for the replies. Thank you VERY much for this. This is exactly what I was looking for. I think his analyses of the free-rider problem and economies of scale are a little incorrect; but otherwise, this is very good stuff.DoPo said:If you're interested, here [http://www.tweakguides.com/Piracy_1.html] is something to provide even more food for thought. Yeah, as I said, it may not be entirely accurate but overall it's the best article I've found that connects as many things together as possible. Informative, although you would need to do some research of your own, not just take everything for granted. It is a very good starting point, at least.Wayneguard said:Thank you VERY much for this. There's also the consideration of needing multiple sources, bad downloads, etc. Well, maybe not "also," but clarification of reasons people might download multiple times.DoPo said:1. One illegal download does not a unique person. It's easy, yes? I can download the game twice or three times easily. Other people can do so, too. That's not to say that everybody pirates the game multiple times but it's enough to say that it's not 5000 different people that did the downloading.
And further, it sure is doing its job!mrdude2010 said:It sounds like an invented statistic. Let's assume it's true for a second. It's a good thing they put all that DRM in, because it definitely doesn't annoy regular customers and definitely combats piracy effectively
Objectively speaking, they do tend to get a bit more flak than deserved. I can't really say though I'm feeling sorry for them, as downright retarded comments like this are the equivalent of painting a bulls-eye on their arses and bending over.erttheking said:...am I the only one getting tired of constantly shitting on developers? Really it seems like the only time that there's a thread about them it's because they fucked up or did something stupid. I know know Jim Sterling's "I love videogames but hate videogames" video but really it seems like the Escapist community just hates every developer in the world...except Valve of course, what with them being God and all. I don't know, I guess I'm just getting tired of going onto the Escapist and seeing about how much (Activision/Ubisoft/EA/Zynga) sucks so much. Personal taste probably, I'd much rather talk about something else than how every single person in the industry sucks. Really this community seems to thrive off of it.
One of my friends actually need to download a cracked copy of AC:R in order to be able to play it at all. So not only did the DRM do nothing to stop the game from being cracked, it forced a legitimate customer to download a cracked version.not_you said:I know hundreds of people would come up with this answer...
But, Piracy because of shit DRM's that don't stop anything but the player enjoying the game IS one of the main reasons for piracy
I think its more like Publishers than Developers, if your going to get specific. But then the Escapist community spent a month burning BioWare at the stake so... my arguments invalid I suppose.erttheking said:...am I the only one getting tired of constantly shitting on developers? Hey, to be fair, we love Atlus too.erttheking said:...am I the only one getting tired of constantly shitting on developers? Oh great, the one developer you admit to liking, and I can't play 90% of their games. And I'm not the type of person that goes "play a playstation game? Never! Praise MS!". I seriously want to play some sony games, (I have wanted to play Infamous for a LONG time) I'm just not in a position to fork out that kind of cash. And it didn't help that a friend of a friend told me how awesome persona is, which was one of several factors that made me kind of depressed and caused me to have an emotional meltdown on this very website. "sigh"... Life can be a little sadistic sometimes huh?RedEyesBlackGamer said:Hey, to be fair, we love Atlus too.erttheking said:...am I the only one getting tired of constantly shitting on developers?
