...awful lot of hostile responses for something that's honestly pretty stock-standard for MMOs. Caught cheating/exploiting something? Get banned/rolled back. I imagine that's why there's the 'two strike' rule as well, so they can tell the difference between someone stumbling across something and someone doing it on purpose.

Like, It's an MMO. The rules of play are a different beast in an MMO. Shit like using Exploits that allow you to farm high-end Raid bosses or give you an advantage in PvP is... well, kinda dick moves and damn near always against the EULA. Blizzard's done much the same (even way back in Vanilla, banning guilds that used exploits to kill raid bosses, even C'thun), because it's usually stipulated that you're not going to be doing anything that takes advantages of problems in the code in the EULA.

We can cry foul and call Ubisoft shitty developers, but really, they're in the right on this (and that's not something I ever thought I'd say about Ubisoft, let me tell you). Intentionally breaking the rules of an MMO? You get punished for doing so. Do they need to fix these exploits? Well, yeah, of course, but that doesn't mean everyone taking advantage of 'em while they're still there are in the right.

The only rightful way to deal with cheater is the way, I think Titanfall did it. Put them all on one Server,
see how much fun they have.

Comletely banning from playing is effectively stealing the license the player bought.
...well that's not how licenses work. It's really hard to steal a license off someone. It's more a case of 'cheaters/exploiters breach the EULA and thus have their license revoked', which depending on how much legalese their EULA has, is totally something within their right to do (I haven't read their EULA, but 'revoked license due to exploiting software bugs' is usually a standard part).

What's wrong with getting rid of the cheating scum right away like in the good old days? Hell, I'm all for locking them out of their entire Uplay / Steam library permanently.
In theory this is great. However you have to look at the chances of hitting an innocent person. If even 1/1000 people caught is innocent and you're locking them out of their entire library (If steam we're potentially talking hundreds to thousands of dollars worth). You'd need to be able to be DAMN well sure no innocents are hit, because that's basically criminal then. I agree cheaters should absolutely be banned, but if you're going to go nuclear you need a 100% sure fire system, not even 99.99% is good enough, and you can never get 100.

EDIT: And if we're including exploits in this? God damn. What do you classify as an exploit? What if someone starts the game, sees something really cool that's giving them tons of Xp/Gold and keeps doing it. WHOOPS that was an exploit, say bye to everything you play.

Ubi and Massive might have screwed up in many aspects of this game, but dropping the banhammer on cheaters is not one of them. It's just a pity they didn't bother to put anything in place after the beta when it became obvious that cheating was rife. It's probably a bit too late at this stage, but at least they are making an effort.

Thing is he had suggested cheaters should not only be banned from the game in question but also their whole Ubisoft and/or Steam library which would include other games the player owns (both SP and MP). No way could you consider that acceptable nor could you argue it would not be stealing.
And you made the argument that it's their game to do with as they please. In the context of an online multiplayer game. This specific one.

Ban the player from PvP until they play by the rules sure, but that is different from banning them out of the whole game that includes a SP component which they still did pay for.
Have you even played The Division? There is no single player game. This argument is completely irrelevant to the game at hand.

This is assuming they follow through. Until now, they've been offering 3 day bans, and even let up on that after a while. There are reports, though I cannot verify, that repeatedly cheating will only lead to multiple 3 day bans. Keep in mind, this is for the more severe levels of cheating, too. Those God Mode One Shotters in the DZ could keep coming back.

Worse, things like the Falcon Lost glitch don't require a Cheat Engine or the like, and allowed certain players to amass significantly higher power levels, which will permanently create a disparity between them and other players if no penalty is offered. According to Ubisoft's PR department, these people are being dealt with. In practice, that appears to be a dirty lie.

So banning people in itself may not be "screwing up," but the way they've handled it thus far is abso-fucking-lutely screwed up and gives me no faith in them going forward.

I'll agree with that. But in the case of those 100% caught, I'd be in favor. A slap on the wrist like Ubi is doing it will only encourage more of those clowns.

Won't work - unless they implement a really strong deterrent like VAC does, it won't stop cheaters. Just inform yourselves about the status of cheating on Rainbow Six Siege on PC, it's downright terrible.
