I'm less critical of Ubisoft on this one. Ubisoft has so far been correcting all of its bad decisions and has been overall on the up and up. This is a big mistake, don't get me wrong, but I that's all it was. It happens.

WOW! Flash backs to Steam retailing Red Orchestra 2 or what? I picked that game up on Christmas with a buddy hoping to get in some multi-player co-op action and... not happening! No refund was offered. And what do you do when the problem was Steam to begin with, as I understand it? Not only is the industry strolling down a fiery lane better known to some as hell, but to make matters worse its communications lines between publishers and distributors seems to have gone on ahead of them. There are only two reasons this could be; one being that they have shitty communications lines, the other being that someone's holding things back, usually for a contractual dance of the damned. Either way, it was bad enough when they were lying badly to their customers. Its ridiculous now that they've adopted the CIA technique of plausible deniability. Who the hell knows whose screwing up, but someone really is these days.

Buying a new game looks more and more like gambling. Roll the dice and hope for the best.
Steam generally don't issue refunds, and that's it. The campaign is not the main point of the game, online multiplayer is the main focus. Tripwire has stated that co-op is coming in a later patch, but that they are currently not satisfied with their implementation.
I LOVE THIS! "Well yea, you bought a product that wasn't as advertised, but let's be frank... Even if it were as advertised, it would suck. We're all about online multi-player." Seriously? You want to make a game that's all about online multi-player? Great! DO IT! Advertise accordingly. Otherwise, this game isn't as advertised. Point made.

I'd also add to that, Steam doesn't generally falsely advertise the capabilities of their products. Just something to think about. I mean, if your house is burning down, do you get dressed or get the fuck out? You get out of the house, it's not a general situation. This isn't a 'general' situation. Just saying.

Well thanks to Ubisoft I guess we can wonder. But it didn't used to be a general situation.

sad to hear, though I'm still giving Future Soldier a try soon enough, albeit solo :[
Its not really that satisfying playing solo cause the AI always succeeds at the stealthy bits and timing shots at the same time as you and the rest of it just plays like a third person shooter.

Why is it so hard to be honest in the gaming business? Why is it so hard to be like CDPR and Valve? W H Y?!!!
Could it be that we are dealing with HUGE corporations that unlike Valve needs to coordinate lots of offices filled with even more people (long story short, shit logistics)?

Valve is easier to deal with since it's only relatively few people who work together to make the thing fit together (fewer components usually mean fewer things to go wrong and when they do go wrong they are more easily limited and repaired).
No its because valve is not a publicly traded company, thus does not need to bend to the will of investors.

That too could be a factor.

Ubisoft... really? Again you make headlines with crap?
Sigh, I used to remember when I was on your side defending your every game.

But really, I've forgotten the reason. Offer refunds and don't be a douche about it, please.

You never know. Now consumers might be spooked.
Can't we just take their apology in the spirit in which it was meant?

But yeah, I don't smell a conspiracy here. Just another instance of foot-in-mouth disease, where the marketing folks didn't actually listen to the technical folks.

I was really looking forward to playing through the campaign split-screen with my brother too. Damn Ubi.

Luckily, there's enough in it to like GR:FS.

Games as art? ... Hell games aren't even a professional business anymore. That sort of whoops would have someone looking for a new job in any other industry.

It's kind of sad how much bullshit goes on in this community (gaming as a whole). If people aren't crying, they're accusing others of being fanboys and apologists.

Can we go back to the time when we just play the fucking games?
That would be nice. I miss hearing/reading positive discussions about games, instead of people zoning in on every small mistake and tearing it apart. Constructive criticism instead of outright abuse would be nice too.

Ubisoft haven't added an Always-On DRM to Ghost Recon Future Soldier (PC). Instead they only require an one-time registration. (http://www.gamepur.com/news/7758-ghost-recon-future-soldier-no-always-online-drm-only-one-time-activation-ne.html)

Personally I think that as with any addict we should support them every step of the way towards putting away the DRM.
Indeed. Have they done a new Silent Hunter lately?

Not that I know of.

The latest was Silent Hunter 5 which did have Always-On DRM and was launched in 2007.

hmm...actually knowing my friends, anything involving stealth (or anything that involves relying on them) just leads to frustration

hence why I never finished Splinter Cell Conviction's co-op stealth missions >:/

Great, so what Ubisoft are saying is...

The one saving grace of Ghost Recon, the core feature that has been present since the original XBox games is not included, but we still advertised it. Now I can abandon all hope of it being a game I might want to play, and find something else to buy instead.

Split screen co-op made these games, having a lot of players on the co-op campaigns, lots of players, no respawns, decent difficulty setting, and you have a great FPS experience that is more intelligent, tense and strategic than any other FPS game like it. Now this new GR looks like it'll be a shallow husk of what the games used to be, something not even worth considering.

I'll tell ya, Borderlands2 can't come soon enough.
