Ubisoft Hunting for Assassin's Creed Expert

I believe the reason for this job request has more to do with the fact the Creative Director for the Assassin's Creed games, Patrice Desilet, has left Ubisoft Montreal to go work at the new THQ Montreal studio.

This means whatever he had in mind for upcoming Assassin's Creed games left with him. Ubisoft seems pretty desperate for that information to keep the franchise going, notice this important bit:

Ubisoft says that it will look particularly favorably on applicants who can make comparisons between the events of the games and how the same events happened in the real world.
They want the encyclopedia with a sequel or three in mind, and want to make sure they can get the information rapidly if it's left unclear by, say, the fan wiki. In that respect, if they need something the fan wiki doesn't have, they're pretty much screwed. Plus, no matter how often wikis are proven to be more reliable then actual encyclopedias, there's still a degree of mistrust in the information.

Maybe some of the guys at Ubisoft who made these games are no longer working there.. So instead of some new guys learning the story for themselves, they are just giving this job out to the public gaining som PR whilst they are at it..

I can understand where they are going with this. Ya we could just sit here and go "Durr, wiki!" but if they just copy the wiki there isn't much of a point and might as well just point to it and go "Information here." Personally I could see it resulting in more of a physical AC: Compendium book as opposed to a simple "official" wiki or something like that. Especially since they have alot of work to catch up on the fan wiki if they are just copying it.

Hold on a second, I need to think this through.
Or they're simply giving the job to write the encyclopedia to someone? It's actually a FANTASTIC PR stunt, taking a fan into the company to write the encyclopedia

Plus once this project is done, either you leave and say you've worked with EA, or you stay with them and keep making good money.

Man, this would be a dream job . . . if it wasn't Assassin's Creed. Don't get me wrong, I love the games, but they didn't inspire the voracious scrutiny that some other things have. I haven't even gotten past the first couple missions of Brotherhood. Still, I think the idea of a "lore expert" is fantastic, especially with a plot as convoluted as that of Assassin's Creed, because you just know that there will be some fans out there that will pick up on any inconsistencies. It sounds like this "expert's" job would be to make sure that doesn't happen.

Why don't they just use the wiki? It has comparisons with real life events, contains all of the story from all of the media and even has some speculation.

Even a detailed timeline:

Isn't that what fan wiki's are for?
This here. There's a wiki for everything.
I think they're looking to make a more "offical" type of thing.
Can't get more official than that. I sometimes checked out the wiki, it's professional and in-depth as it gets, seriously.
It doesn't work that way. The way copyright laws work prohibit them from integrating the wiki into their next game, or copy-pasting the articles into a game-based encyclopedia (which is, honestly, what this sounds like it's leading up to). Guild Wars had an unofficial wiki since the game came out, basically, but a few years after release the devs decided they wanted to integrate a wiki into their /help command...which meant they had to start their own, official wiki, so they could retain copyright over everything posted to it.

Also: just because they know everything about the game, does not mean they have everything organized in nice, neat, encyclopedia-style articles, nor does it mean that they've thoroughly researched and written about the "real world" version of every event they have in the game.

No.
It means that multiple persons wrote multiple games/movies/comics that now form one universe.
And none of these persons is currently available/unimportant enough to write a wiki.

I'm sure they could just consult the wikia page. Those tend to be pretty comprehensive.

Exactly my thought lol. They should just say hey go here, we don't own it but it is really good and we actually endorse it. If they were nice enough they could pay out to major contributors or at least pay for the server space.

I commend Ubisoft for recognizing the importance of good knowledge management and informational organization. If was unemployed I'd strongly consider this offer. I seem to write encyclopedia-style by default.

The game created itself... (cue dramatic music)

OT: I would give it a shot. I love the AC canon, and I also love history. If I didn't have so much on (school, university coming up etc) I'd give it a shot.

Actually, I might look into this...

No, they just want someone to have the specific job of keeping it all in check.

Although the Wiki is ridiculously detailed, would have thought they'd have scouted people on that.

That's more of an AssCreed Scholar, I thought they meant 'good player' by expert.

Anyway, not applying. But if they need a Russia consultant for AC:Fall, then please come to me. Cause "Orelov" is wrong "Orlov" is right.

That's pretty cool.
If only I knew more about the Universe. Only played 1, 2 and Brotherhood.
