This is what makes me so torn about Ubisoft. I wish they weren't as evil as EA and Activision, but they are. And yet, they've also developed or published some of my all-time favorite games: Prince of Persia: SoT, Beyond Good and Evil, Assassin's Creed (and Watch Dogs was one of about 3 interesting games at E3 this year). But even though I'm not a PC gamer and DRM doesn't hugely affect me, come on Ubisoft. You cannot think this is reasonable, can you?

I'm not going to boycott Ubisoft as long as they continue to produce quality, playable console games. But if thats not the case for the PC versions, then I see no reason why you guys should continue to give them money.

I knew there was a niggling doubt stopping me from buying Heroes of Might & Magic 6, it was Ubisoft.

I didnt even know Ubisoft published the game, but that stopped me from buying it and jumping arse first right into this nonsense.

Now only if i can get used to playing ArmA 2...

I wanted to post a large reply to your post but I was too busy looking for a bigger spoon, because the irony in this sentence is just delicious.

Hey it really is a universal gif!

I guess it's a good thing I didn't buy any of the Ubisoft titles, even with the deep discounts going on. I did get the latest Ghost Recon when it was released and that was unplayable too, but only because it was one of the worst pc ports I've seen in my life.

That's like saying that grocery stores shouldn't exist because people might do some shoplifting. Shutting down an entire platforms service because of the actions of a minority (and yes, piracy is a minority despite the media hyping it up)is unacceptable.
This shutdown will only affect legitimate gamers, if anything this only encourages piracy. If you steal a game you don't need to put up with bullshit like this.

I'll assume this is some error on their end because even Ubisoft (dumb as they are already) are not THIS stupid.

Last Ubisoft game I purchased was their PC port of Grandia 2 a decade ago. It was full of glitches and botched battle animations and special effects. I also needed Windows XP to get it to work, which I found kind of funny because I was told that 9X/ME were supported and XP wasn't.

Lucky for me the only Ubisoft games I want Heroes of Might and Magic 5 and Beyond Good and Evil 2. One was released in 2006years before Ubi brought out this shit and the other will never happen.

Honestly, it does not bother me. People, if you have to play games on PC, you need to expect something like this happening. A game is more likely to be pirated from PC than gotten legitimately. Sorry, but whether true or not, that's reality.
yes, and I dont agree with Piracy..HOWEVER the simple fact is you DO NOT punish your paying customers for the activity of others...[b/]there are better ways to go about it[/b]

sure, DRM is there, and I deal with it,I dont boycott..and I accept the fact I have to deal with it but I don;t have to like it

with online passes bullshit even that feels questionable (or at least heading that way) I mean just look at Jim's video on consoles ebing PC's....kind of shows how conoles are losing their "avantages"

[citation needed]

And I hope you really have some overwhelming evidence that that's the case, because otherwise I'm going to call "Bravo-Sierra" right here.

While you're at it, why don't you toss in some evidence that proves screwing over your legitimate customer is somehow more likely to make them stay a legitimate customer.

Yet, I can play From Dust whenever I want on my PS3 without having to resort to online checks like this. Sure it might be slower because I can never have the right graphics card, but I can still play it whenever I feel like it on or offline.
Oh how cute, console vs. PC.

This is another notch in the consoles are better side of the argument. We don't have to worry about companies screwing over our gaming experiences with meaningless and mandatory DRM like this.
Good for you. Now why don't you stop wasting time mingling with us PC low-lifes? Your master race might excommunicate you if you spend too much time with us, after all.

I don't buy Ubisoft games for the PC because of their bullshit DRM. EA too. The only gaming client I have on my computer is Steam, and I'm not particularly a fangirl of Valve, either. If there's any Ubisoft/EA titles I particularly want, I'll buy them for my console.

Have you tried using a shorter password? The only thing I've heard is that the launcher has a password length restriction, while the website does not. I believe it cuts off at 16 characters, maybe less.

It is starting to get to the point where if we boycott any and all companies with terrible business practices we are going to run out of companies to buy games from.........

U Play has been working for a for a while without any serious hitches (comparatively), they transition to a new client and run into a hick-up, they're working on it.
Translation to gamers: OMG THE SKY IS FALLING UPLAY IS THE PRODUCT OF SATAN'S ASSHOLE, QUICK LOVE STEAM HARDER!!

Holy hell guys, I mean come one, it happens all the time. Remember when steam rolled out steam cloud and it absolutely demolished your ability to play left 4 dead...for like 2 whole weeks of off and on outages?

I like Uplay to be honest. I thought it was a good way to add a little bit of extra value to a game by doing things you'd do anyway, then redeeming those actions for a game item or multi-player character.

However I continually get annoyed that pirates get a better product than I do from buying the game.

Don't publishers realise that the only people that have to put up with their DRM are the people who bought the games. Don't they realise that the pirates aren't getting inconvenienced but the paying customers are.

Why do they continue to hammer genuine PC gamers but do nothing to even try and stop those who are playing pirated console versions of their games.

I love PC gaming and always pay for my games but it isn't hard to see why people turn to piracy when they are getting a better product than from the official source.

Excuse me while I await a post from the person that always replies to stuff like this.
Emphasis mine. For the first one I can only say: does not compute.

As for the second one: I seem to recall my PS3 being bricked for a month or so a while back due to Sony shutting down PSN.

Bothers me a LOT.
Picked up the Ubisoft pack on Steam Summer Sale. Can't play From Dust, the game I most wanted to play. Needless to say, I will not be buying anything else from them, even if they drop DRM and apologize, it's clear they can't be trusted to run things.

I bought Heroes VI on the steam sale yesterday, and instead of playing the game I got to deal with this total bullshit. You can't play the game even in offline mode without logging into online mode at least once... but you can't log in to online mode because UPLAY SUCKS AND WON'T LET YOU!

Some people managed to satisfy this requirement by spamming the login button, but I don't have an existing account so I would have to create one which is utterly impossible. There's nothing on their so called support site, not even a hint of the problem.

What really pisses me off is that I bought this on Steam. A system that already has DRM, which last I checked was actually pretty effective. So why the fucking hell do we have to deal with Ubi's nonfunctional game breaking bullshit on top of it?

Oh right, because Ubi has the mental capacity of a lobotomized electroshock victim when it comes to DRM and other anti-piracy customer punishment measures.
