Disappointingly enough, it seems the Ubi bubble on Steam has in fact not popped!

What do you think, did we all rush to believe it simply because we wanted to?

Not unlike the Michael Jackson news last year, it seems a story hits the breeze and will have reached a dozen news sources just in case it's right.

Any other thoughts on what it would take to chip away at the DRM nightmare?

What it would take? it would be very simple, if people just choose not to buy games with shitty DRM, then they'd realize they were doign something wrong, cause it would hurt their economy.
From their point of wiev, pissing players off is not wrong, as logn as they still buy their games. Unless it hurts their wallets, they're loosing nothing.

So for anyoen who bought the game with crap DRM, you're to blame as well.

That's a bit of a hypothetical though. We've seen time and again, 'just don't buy it' doesn't work. Endless streams of hate for EA, for example, about their yearly sports franchises. I hold them no ill will for their business model, because people incessantly buy them. This tacit acceptance among some gamers, though, doesn't take away from the problems others have with them.

The difference though is that franchises take up shelf space, little more. They fund original IP (Dead Space, Skate, Mirror's Edge) whereas DRM needs a far sharper stick poked at it. People want to play these games, and by including these stilted, rotten systems, by shops carrying them, they're being allowed to continue.

Just because people want to play games, they shouldn't be subjected to such heavy-handed measures. I'm afraid the fight here, pretty much has to start higher up. It's a shame about Steam not actually withdrawing the games, as that would have been a great start.

"Local business decision" = Steam dodging a bullet in selling defective products knowingly, which AFAIK is a crime in the UK. The fact that Steam is boycotting the game anywhere is a blow to Ubi.
