Ubisoft to Sell Competition's Games on Uplay Store

The most interesting thing here is that EA is putting its games on there. Given that they stopped throwing up their new games on Steam one has to wonder what Ubisoft did that made EA like them more than Valve.

Or is that still them just being annoyed that Steam wants them to make any DLC available through Steam? Because that seems totally reasonable to me as a consumer. The main reason I don't have all the Mass Effect 2 DLC is that I can't be bothered to buy Bioware Points so I can buy the DLC so I can download it and install it separately.

Also: Ubisoft is getting into this REALLY late in the game. What do they think they have other people don't? I mean, EA at least has started holding their games hostage so that it's them or nobody. (I don't think it's a good idea, but it's the reason I even have Origin, so I guess it works) I think if Ubisoft tried that they'd fold. So all they have is a subpar system selling games at the same prices as Steam that nobody even realizes exists.

Monopolies are bad, but so far it seems like everybody else WANTS Valve to keep their near-Monopoly on Digital Distribution. Nobody else besides GOG seems interested in even trying to create a better alternative.

Also: At the person above me who mentioned wanting something with no launcher: May I introduce you to http://www.gog.com? It's freaking magical. You should go give them ALL YOUR MONEY. I would, but I already did.

God I hate Uplay. I should never have to spend more than an hour trying to retrieve a password. Such a terrible system just isn't acceptable.

I find my hatred for UPlay would prevent me from actually buying a product from the UPlay Store. It's really annoying... not to mention, as DRM, only they use it. Steamworks is used by a lot of companies, GFWL is used by a lot of companies... but UPlay is just Ubisoft. And I have never heard anyone say a positive thing about it.

I love GoG, so that is the way to go. But they need to get more newer titles on there. I don't know why every indie developer doesn't go there first. From what I understand, they take a smaller portion of the money as compared to Valve. EA is nothing but sour grapes. They want to be the only ones that make money from DLC. It wouldn't be so bad except for things like shitty ass Bioware points. That is the same reason I would never buy anything on XBL even if I had a 360.

I am, as I've said before, not much in to PC gaming, but it seems to me that if this is a model that worked with Steam, it's a model that the other online distribution services should have been considering before they launched their respective services. I mean, honestly: when people walk into a store, it's not like they expect that store to support only a single publishers' titles. Why would you think any different of digital distribution? Having a solo service for every publisher is needlessly obtuse.

Exercise your greed with some common sense, is all I'm saying.
This.

It makes sense from a business perspective but honestly? The Digital Distribution market only needs one outlet, if you're looking at it purely from the point of view of convenience. I'm hoping for a future where everyone's games are available everywhere, so I can just pick one service (i.e. Steam) and stick to it.

As it is, I'm stuck with three DD clients on my rig, only one of which sees any regular use. I'm going to be forced to knock on Origin's door in time for SimCity's release but outside of that? Eh. My first two Mass Effects are on Steam.

I've got a grand total of two Uplay titles, whoop dee fucking doo! That sure justifies the nearly useless client on my hard drive, Ubisoft!

Due to the shear reach of Steam over GOG.

Even if Steam took a 50% cut over GOGs 20%, the massive Steam userbase would mean more copies sold and a bigger profit overall.

But yeah GOG is a good place for indie titles to go on.
