I know many of you UK Escapists like me will be applying for university this year and that means filling out the dreaded UCAS form.
I personally have hit a brick wall with mine. All i need to do is write my personal statement and i'm done but its just so damn hard. And i keep getting distracted by this place and my 360 which isnt helping XD
Others i know are struggling with things like choices too.
So, any of you going through similar problems or went through them when you applied for uni.
And for our friends accross the pond, do you have something similar in the USA. Oh and for those of you who don't know what UCAS is, they basically send your application to the five universities of your choice for you after you have finished it.

Yeah, i really just started this thread to complain. it makes me feel better

Yeouch. I went through this 2 years ago. Funny thing was I ended up refusing my choices and going through clearing. I was lucky that I found a Uni close by (I commute) and a course that I liked in my 1st attempt of ringing one.
Anyway, my advice with your statemment would be to be specific. Don't say (in regards to courses) that your interested in a range of them (Like I was interested in pursuing Maths and Biology but separate uni's wouldn't want to know that. They want to know that your interested in them if you get my meaning.).

Yeah I had to do it two years ago, I honestly wansn't really expecting to go to Uni, it was decide to go to uni day or whatever and they asked who wanted to go and everyone but me in the room put their hand up, so i thought well I might as well.
For the personal statement just try to list everything you think they want to hear, i.e. grades interests, blah blah. Good luck.

And make sure you gush about your chosen subject; universities want to know you study outside the curriculum for your subject. Where are you applying to and what for, anyway?

I've written my personal statement already! My problem is I am 760 characters over the limit and keep thinking of new things to add.

I'm applying for politics and parliamentary studies at Leeds. History and politics at Leeds. History and politics at Nottingham. Military history at salford and History at Teeside.

I think the hardest part is just getting started properly. But my brain refuses to work right now XD

I'm studying in UK, even though I'm from Eastern Europe. The UCAS application is fairly easy, all you need is patience, just as you need it for the personal statement, which easiness depends on what course will you participate in.

So...what course?
EDIT: Nevermind, I just read the last post.

I got my Personnal statement the day before my tutor was going to send it off last year, in the end I opted out of going to Uni anyway, I'm on my year out before I go back into college for an FDA course in Media Production.

I'm gonna have to do UCAS again, even though I'm practically mates with the guy who's gonna be leading the course...
And I'm kinda working as a volunteer Teaching Assistant in his current course xD

But yeah, I feel your pain, mate.

Just take a few seconds to think about what you genuinely consider your good points, mix in some skills you have and feel you've got a real mastery over and the rest is just babbling enough to make it look fancy.

[EDIT]: Oh, and I noticed you were looking at Teeside! I was gonna go there too, not for History related things, Concept Art for Video Games.

Ah, I see why it's a ***** to write. If you have a wide range of subjects, you can't focus on one, or the others will throw you away straight away.

Ha! UCAS is a breeze compared to the Student Finance application. You've got that to look forward to, too.

I remember doing that years ago (2 or 3 something like that), but as annoying as it is, being at Uni makes it all worthwhile.
I don't know whether it was UCAS but pretty soon after I signed up with it, I started getting bombarded by junk emails, so I don't know whether it was a coincidence or UCAS giving emails out to everyone on the planet.

Seconded, Personal statements are nothing compared to the amount of shit you have to go through with Student Finance.

We don't have anything like the UCAS, but we have FASFA. A.K.A Student aid...it's evil as hell...oh, and I get to fill out all my apps indivdually...I despise apps...

I think it would have been better if they let you write a different personal statement for each uni. I mean yeah it means writing five instead of one, but it would let you focus on each option better
