So, yeah. I bought Gears of war, and Gears of war 2 recently. On both of these games the console would freeze on the title screen, or some point shortly there after. I wasn't having any problems with CoD 4 or L4D, but I also started playing oblivion again today, and was having a LOT of problems. The game would freeze on load screens, the game would load the actual LEVEL, so I would look at a black screen unless I went to the menu and then went BACK to the game.

I also keep getting " The disc is un-readable" messages, which is totally unreasonable. They're perfectly clean except for a few minor scratched. Which leads me to another question. The plastic that leads to the hole in the middle, (The clear plastic near the hole) has some minor stuff going on, I.E., there appears to be some bubbles on one part of my oblivion disc. But physically seems fine. The disc is totally even and all that. And on my Gears 2 disc there appears to be some sort of blue scratch on the same part as the aforementioned Oblivion disc. However it's not a scratch per se.

Anyway, is there any reason that would interfere with game play?

If not, should I call microsoft (again) and send my 360 in (For the second time in under two months)?

Thanks for the help. Sorry the post is so long! Hope it made sense too. :p

I'm not exactly sure if the scratches would do anything, but it could be your 360. If there is a local gaming shop, try taking it in there. Since it's a local shop they should attempt to help with your problem. If it is you 360, I would call MS.

Yeah, I was thinking about taking my Gears 2 out to the shop I bought it at, and my oblivion, to see if I could get it to act up.

Clear out your cache. Oblivion has been known to have performance problems, and clearing the cache sorts it out instantly.

If that doesn't work then eh... I dunno'z.

Get a disc laser cleaner thingy.

Make sure your machine is on it's side.

Kill all pets in the house (alternatively make sure that the machine is off carpet).

Don't smoke.

---

If all these don't work. Call tech support.

Well, I refuse to put my 360 on it's side, my 360 is off the ground with about a foot an a half at least of vent room, I don't smoke, and when I was troubleshooting Gears and Gears 2, tech support had me clear the cache.

If you can, try the discs on a friend's Xbox 360. That should help you decide if it's the games or your console.

If it's the console, send it back and ask for some compensation.

If it's the disc, well, if the scratches occurred through regular use you might be able to get another copy from the store you bought it from. Alternatively some shops offer disc fixing services, should cost about £3 per game. These should sort the problem as the actually remove the plastic from the DVD and re-apply it.

Wouldn't it be a good idea to at least try. Does it matter about the position if it works?

Why do you refuse to put your console on its side? Unless by side you mean end. laying it flat, on its side, is much better for your disks.

Try a lens cleaning thing, if your disjs are all clean then it follows that either your lens is dirty or its broken.
