For Sheffield, I'd definitely recomend the Fat Cat, the Lescar, the Harlequin, and (for an utterly preposterous range of beers) The Devonshire Cat. All fantastic pubs, plenty of character and local products.

For Colchester, the Odd One Out has to get mentioned; not so much on the local beer front, since our local brewer was bought out a few years ago, but there's an excellent range of east Anglian beers, as well as ones from further afield, and it's definitely the best cider pub, set just out of the centre of the oldest recorded town in Britain.

I haven't been there myself, but if you're going to be anywhere near Nottingham, you can check out the Trip to Jerusalem [http://www.triptojerusalem.com/]. Supposedly it's the oldest pub in Britain, dating back to 1189.

If you're in London, you have no excuse to not go to The Plough in Crouch, Kent - it has intricate teapots dangling from the ceiling! It has does traditional gastronomic food but done insanely well. If you are feeling like a man, go for the Mammoth Mixed Grill for £15 - seven types of meat with chips and egg and salad garnish made from fresh locally-sourced produce - I beasted it when I was 13 :p

If you go to Yorkshire, go to the Tan Hill Inn (the highest up pub in Britain) on the Herriot Way, a slightly eccentric place - there is usually a duck sitting in front of the fire and there are sheep outside trying to get in.
