Today I went to look up the 40k Space Marine game on the UK Steam Store, but it turns out that its silently vanished. No one seems to have noticed barring a few threads on Steam which haven't recieved any official response.

This happened the day Brink was release, and now to Space Marine the day it can be (apparently) pre-ordered around the world. I also can't pre-order Dead Island, even though a friend of mine in the US can. Does anybody else have this problem, or know what the situation is or what kind of conspriacy is at work here?

There's been some people touching on rumours that this is due to UK retailer GAME preventing certain games from being sold through Steam - even though Space Marine is using Steamworks. Does anyone know if this is possible?

Thoughts? (Conspriacy) Theories?

I remember around the time Summer Camp started I couldn't buy The Bard's Tale, but that's been fixed.

How long did it take for Brink to come back up after the pre-order issues? I should imagine it's the same thing as it was then. (What exactly it is that Valve has against us I don't know...)

They bought retail exclusive rights, Steam can't sell the games now. It's all legal and above board. Steam isn't always the cheapest place to buy games anyhow.

Do you have a link for this? Because I've never heard of it, except rumours.

Nope, heard directly. Sure there'll be some info somewhere.

That's what I wanted to know too, I specifically went looking for this.

I'd gathered GAME were refusing to stock games if they used SteamWorks, but I read publishers were unhappy...will be a shame if that's not the case.

Still shows up for pre-order for me. (Both Space Marine and Dead Island.) Could be a region thing? Then again OP, I'm in Ireland, and you're in the UK, try it again.

Edit: And Brink is still there too...

That's why it's strange, because Space Marine still uses Steamworks, yet they're stocking it.

Brink returned to the Store after it vanished awhile, I do wonder if changing steam regions makes a difference though.

I would be fine with this if my local GAME store had a PC section bigger than just a small shelf containing the Top 5 and a even smaller seperate 'classic' budget games section. As it stands I'm pissed off enough to consider shredding my GAME reward card and boycotting the retailer for good.

We all know that most people who would are going to buy the game retail anyway are going to get the PS3 or XBOX360 versions. You know the systems that they devote about half their floor space to.

Retailers both hammered the final nail and cremated the PC game market's coffin long before Steam appeared.

Edit: Just been looking at GAME's website. Seems they're just trying to make (okay, FORCING) people use their own download service.
